Valentine's Day Horror Stories

I have to admit... Valentine's Day does not have the best memories for me.

One year, when I was still married to my first husband, my best friend (who he was having an affair with) came over to do her laundry.

I had a very special little kitten that liked to jump into appliances... in fact, I had adopted him after he nearly got himself killed in a car engine. I warned her several times about the kitten's suicidal tendencies and told her to make sure he was not in the dryer before she turned it on.

Needless to say, the biotch killed my little kitty.

The other lovely memory I have is of being alone on Valentine's Day (in between marriages) and having had a little too much to drink. Then, at 1AM, this sort of boyfriend who was off at college called me.

Well, I was so shocked by the phone ringing (why call at 1AM???) that I ran into the hardwood furniture with my 2nd and 3rd toe. Broke 'em. I answered the phone but could barely speak. When I realized it was him, I started laughing and crying at the same time. If he had just had the decency to call a few hours earlier, I probably wouldn't have been feeling so miserable and dejected the whole evening!

Anyway, I am SO over Valentine's Day now.

Anyone else want to share a horror story or tale of woe?

We are very low-key on Valentines Day. Its a Hallmark holiday. We don't need one day for it to be special.

Plus, we still always have a post-Christmas hangover!

well shoot, just this weekend, I found out that my girl friend does want to be serious with me, and get to know me, but my parents are a little put off by her.. so it might be a rough v day for me.. She's coming over tues night.

Adul... be sure to reach out and touch her... it will mean a lot under the circumstances.

TRP... That's how it is for us, especially because his birthday is 3 weeks before and mine is two weeks after!

I buy my children little gifts instead.

Sundance, my other old doggie, died last Valentines Day. She was 14.

I'll try for something interesting, but she's got some personality quirks, that certain people I value in my life, don't understand, so it might be tough, unless my G/f is willing to tone things down a little the rare times that she and I are around those people. She really upset my aunt, whom I'm really close to, and my aunt is probly gonna spread her feelings about it to my other aunt, and well, I don't need that kind of stress, because I am really close with my fam, and if they start buggin me about liking this girl, I will stop hanging out with them, but it will hurt me. And if she doesn't tone down, I'd probly stick with my g/f (we arn't involved physically) But just associating with her might be enough for my dad to want to force me out of the house.

Ahhh....

I was baking Snoopy valentine's cookies and I remember the classic one...

When I was in 4th grade, we all made fancy mailboxes out of shoeboxes to collect out Valentines. Oh, I took great care to decorate it just right!

When Valentine's Day came, all the Valentines were given to the teacher at the beginning of class and she delivered them to our mailboxes during lunchtime.

This was back in the day when the kids were allowed to pick who they wanted to give a card to... nowadays, if they send in cards it must be for the whole class.

Anyway, everyone was excited, counting how many cards they had and sharing candy... I kept quiet so no one would see that out of a class of 30, I only got 2 cards. And of course, I had made sure to address a card to everyone in the class. Sigh, those were the days!
