Valet tip?

I took my date last night to The Charthouse last night, I highly recommend this place if you want a special night out, the view and food is spectacular.


How much should you tip a valet even if your car is right up front?

Hate valet parking, it?s a scam especially if you are forced to valet park and there is lots of parking.

Wife was in the same boat we were waiting for the valet parking guy to just back our car out it was only about 20 steps from the door, my wife practically parked the car when we got there. My wife never used valet parking and asked me if she should give the guy a tip and if so how much. I told her to give whatever she thought he deserved, so she just starts to drive. The guy literally put his hands and face on the front windshield like the tip was mandatory, I told her to just keep going.

nice. which location did you go to?

i normally tip the valet anywhere from $1-$10, i guess depending on how i feel, or how sorry i feel for the valet driver (is it wrong to feel sorry?)

i guess just tip what you can afford, or what you feel the valet person deserves.

at the mondrian in la, i saw a bentley driver tip the valet $100. he initially tipped $20 (which i think is a lot) but his wife/gf/mistress (don't want to judge but he was at least 50-60, and she was probably in her 20s) gave him a dirty look and said "thats it?" so he pulled out a fat wad and broke the valet off a benjamin.

We don't make that great money, not when no one tips.

If someone tips me 2 bucks I'm happy, 5 bucks I'm extremely grateful, when someone gives me a 20 I'm happier than a clam.

Don't valets get paid a good wage?

I hate the whole tipping thing in general. Move here to Australia and you will see how great it is to go out to a meal and have only to pay exactly what the menu price says and you will be happy you don't have to tip.

If you choose to valet when there is self-parking available, you should always tip IMO. It is a 'value-add' that you did not have to partake of. However, if the establishment is valet only, then I feel comfortable saying that they in all likelihood have included the cost of the valet in with your overpriced meal and tipping is in fact optional.
