It's a JSRPG, if anything. Not that the western SRPG field consists of much (Gladius?).

I'm not sure why lack of magic or monsters is a problem. Gameplay is what makes the game...

I gave it a rental + didn't care for the game either.. While monsters and magic don't necessary need to be present, I didn't care for the story or battle system at all. I found the overall progression to be terribly distracting.

I am not a fan of SRPG so I am probibly not the best judge of it's worth as a game. I just know it's not for me.

Glad this thread got a bump- my ps3 is arriving today (bought for MLB the show), but this game looks worth at least a rent.

I got this and Star Ocean 4 from Gamefly yesterday. I popped in SO4 first to check it out, but since it is 3 discs and will probably take forever to beat , I decided to try out VC, and ended up playing it for 8 hours yesterday with short breaks.

I had no exposure to JSRPG's prior to this game, so I don't really care about the episodic story progression. However, the gameplay and leveling system are awesome, and should keep me hooked till I beat it. My only gripe is if you are going for a good grade - for maximum xp and DTC - you have to load frequently, since you don't want to waste precious command points.

I wish they'd bring it to 360, but that'll never happen. If PS3s get cheap enough for me to pick one up, I'll get it then.

Valkyria Chronicles DLC marching to PSN soon

A number of you have been asking about this on our weekend posts, and today SEGA has the answer. Beginning with tomorrow?s April 16th?s PlayStation Store update, gamers will be able to return to Gallia to fight some new EWII battles.

Here are details on the Valkyria Chronicles DLC, direct from SEGA:

* Hard EX Mode ? fight your way once again through the entire Imperial army, where the enemies are more lethal and your main tank Edelweiss is unavailable. You?ll have to be more strategic in order to overcome your opponents.
* Edy?s Mission ?Enter the Edy Detachment? ? six members have been separated from Squad 7 and on their journey to reunite with their squad, they stumble upon a tiny village under attack by the Imperial Army. Play as Edy and command your outnumbered team to defend the small village from annihilation.
* Selvaria?s Mission ?Behind Her Blue Flame?? Taking place right after the outbreak of Gallian battle lines, you play as Johann, a young and meek engineer assigned to Selvaria?s troop. See the action as it unfolds behind enemy lines and see the war play out through the eyes of the enemy.

It's part of the 50% off Gameday Sale that started on Sunday. Looks like it is out of stock online . It is this price for a New copy. You probably would be very lucky to find one at your local store at this point, but as always YMMV. It's worth a shot (or a phone call).

I just happen to run across a few anime episodes of this game, I think they are up to 3 or 4. Didn't know they made a tv series out of this in Japan. They kept the same pencil sketch art style, but the pencil shading seemed more like an afterthought as it's not incorporated as well as the game, but it doesn't distract from the enjoyment of it.

I only saw the first 2 episodes, but I'm hooked. I think I will eventually get the game (after my backlog of 10+ games I haven't started yet).

I think the anime will really help me get more into the game and get more enjoyment out of it, as compared to if I never saw the show.

Check it out if you're into anime.

I'm definitely interested in the anime, and will be picking it up if it hits the USA.

The FAQs are pretty good. Just be aware that your mission rank depends on the number of turns you take, and nothing else. This feels weird, because the "best" way through the mission is the fastest one.
