if this isn't a joke thread, i would say 1-5 bucks depending on generosity and the place. giving the guy a buck would fall under 'not being a total douche' while a fivespot would be pretty damn generous.

hell.. there's a "red roof inn" around here that charges $80 a night... and they dont even offer valet.

When we stay at a hotel that offers valet parking, I USUALLY tip the valet who gets the car a dollar.

Don't knock Motel 6. It really all varies on actual sites. I was on a 63-day cross country road trip.

I stayed at the Motel 6 in Joliet, IL for $45. Holy shit it was soooooo nice. Everything beautifully furnished, two-tone drapes and sleek high-count thread sheets. AND FLAT HDTV!

all chains are gonna be different from location to location. i'm not sure what the point of even carrying the franchise name is, they all set their own prices and generally provide a widely varying level of accomadations. holiday inn, marriot, et al and even your better motels all vary greatly in quality between individual establishments.

Yeah, that was my thought as well. I don't think I'd even stop at a $28/night motel...I'm not that fond of cockroaches...
