It'll happen with every pack they put out .. it was worse with the medic pack IMHO. Give it a week or two, no biggie.

I have to say that I don't really understand why people would bother to go to an achievement server when the Pyro achievements are so easy to get in regular play. I got the Axtinguisher in only three days of regular Pyro play, and that's on my favorite servers which restrict the class to three slots out of a 12-person team (they do the same for Medics, and Engineers). I'm resigned to the fact that even though I've got about 30 of the Medic achievements, I'm unlikely to get a couple of the remaining ones without asking a friend to help out, but that's ok - my favorite class was always Pyro, with Medic behind that.

I'd really much rather get the achievements through regular play, and I'm happy that Valve made that possible, with the only exception being the Spy-taunt achievement. I think they've learned with this update by making it much easier to get the achievements through regular play. The main improvement to the process that I think they could make now is to release several classes at once, to try to balance out the mad class rush. Even if they don't, it settles down after less than a week anyway.

Ha. Shortly after I write that, I see this:

I don't mind the surge in Pyro numbers, but personally I think the new weapons are a little too powerful. The pyro now has more HP than the soldier, 335 when overhealed, and 100% crits from behind, that shit kills you in a second.

My friends are telling me to get TF2, but I don't like the direction it is taking. Not class composition on a random server at a random time, mind you. I just don't like grinds and unlocks of anything but cosmetic variety. Don't see the point int them. It was fun unlocking gear in Virtua Fighter. It was utterly unfun needing to play single player mode in some Soul Calibur installment, with characters I don't enjoy playing, only to gain access to the characters I played in the previous installment and to start playing the real game.

I don't know how you think that Soul Calibur example compares to TF2, but I play TF2 a shit ton and I don't have most of the unlocks. The weapon unlocks aren't even as good as, say, weapon unlocks in BF2 where you could actually gain some of the better weapons that way. The TF2 guns are lateral moves for the most part, several of which are actually backwards moves. You don't need them. The achievements do give you some fun challenges to work towards while you play multiplayer though.

Personally the acheivements for me are more of a, 'wtf you really just killed me with your taunt" funny thing to do.

Having the unlockable weapons won't make or break the class if you don't have them. At least not yet.

Now that noob weekend is over, and that noob week will be over soon, everything will go back to the way it was. With a few more pyros and medics.

Exactly. I am still missing a bunch of the Medic achievements and most of the Pyro achievements and it doesn't hinder me at all. They are really just a bonus, not anything game-breaking at all.

I'm not a fan of the achieve-to-unlock system, but with the new update at least the medic's unlocks are a lot more reasonable now. My newly received ubersaw helped me win 3 matches today (charging up the uber faster is simply awesome).

There is such an abundance of ignorance on this topic.

Say in a year from now, if/when all achievements for all classes are out. Someone who has unlocked all of the weapons will have no superior advantage over someone that has 0 achievements (other than not being a noob, but the game is easy to learn).

Each weapon upgrade has it's pluses and minuses that in no way affect the balance of the game. You won't get pwned simply because you don't have them. If you want to get them, no grinding is required. Just play the game and you can unlock all the weapons.

Come play over on XBLive - no achievements, no upgrade releases and no new maps.

Ha! You gotta be kidding. The extra health and the crits from behind from the backburner alone is a huge advantage for the pyro. I've unlocked it all for that class and I played it quite a bit before and after. If you don't have anything unlocked after a year of all classes being upgraded you are gonna be worse off, there is no doubt about it.

That said, I can understand why they are doing one class at a time, though I don't agree with it. It keeps up interest in the game for a good long time compared to doing everything at once. Which means more sales in the long run.

I also agree that for a few days the pyro craze is bothersome but it doesn't take long for things to get back to normal or close to normal.

BTW, there are plenty of achievement servers out there....I have no problem with people using them or taking longer on regular servers. One thing I do know....other people use those achievement servers and they sure as h*ll don't have a problem using their ubered weapons against you.

How you can play this game with that controller is beyond me.

I just played regular games I got the backburner after three evenings of play. I'd say that's a pretty low commitment.

You've gotta be kidding. Or you can't read. All new weapons create advantages (extra HP + crits from behind, as you say), but they ALSO create disadvantages. Thus, the overall balance is the same.

I have all the medic and pyro weapons. As a pyro, I am able to dominate just as easily with the standard set as I can with the upgraded set.

You're a fool if you think the new weapons are 100% better than the standard ones. I can go through them one by one if you want. Here's a few examples: the flame thrower and the upgraded back burner. Sure you get extra health and crits from behind, but you lose the compression blast and (I may be wrong on this) but it seems like the backburner has a shorter range. The compression blast on the standard flame thrower is VERY useful. If they did not add the compression blast, I would agree that the backburner is superior, but that's not how things are. I was playing 1 on 1, both of us being pyros, and the other guy had his flare gun and backburner equipped, while I had my flamethrower and shotgun equipped. I kicked his ass and blocked him from getting any caps with the compression blast.

The pyro's shotgun and upgraded flare gun. Take away the shotgun and the pyro is useless at medium distances from most classes. Hitting anything other than a heavy who is spinning his cannon isn't that easy, and it doesn't do all that much damage. Sure I've lucked out and shot people with it while they are on the run, but it's much easier to take people out with the shotgun when they are out of the flamethrowers reach. You can't always ambush people.

The medic's Critzcrieg. 100% crits, 0% invulnerability. Do I need to explain that anymore for you?

The problem for me though is that a pyro with a backburner will almost always kill a pyro with a vanilla flamethrower head-to-head (and this happens a lot with me). The compression blast does not help in anyway in this situation. I think they should make the backburner do slightly less damage to other pyros compared to the normal flamethrower.
