Because it is common for people to own TVs. Console gamers who want gaming PCs don't magically have old monitors, keyboards, and mouses lying around.

If someone doesn't have a TV, you bet the cost of one is added into calculating the cost of a console.

Most console gamers have an old or low end PC already. I'd guess that there are more PCs being sold now than TVs. You can always hook a PC up to a TV. Basic mice and keyboards are dirt cheap, if you've never owned one before.

Which makes little sense. "Oh I want to spend $1000 on a gaming PC, but having to 'lose' $150 of that to an OS just makes it not worth it."

It makes sense for the lower priced markets, like HTPCs or just a Facebook / email checker.

$150 is 15% of $1000. 15% is a significant cost. Last time I built a full gaming PC I shopped around for hours to work $1500 down to $1100. *shrug*

Desktop PCs and laptops? If we remove the corporate market, not even close. I can't think of a single person that has a computer and does not own a TV. I am sure they exist, but the amount of people who own TVs vastly eclipses those who own PCs.

And for some reason, I find it hard to believe if I was willing to spend $600+ on this gaming PC, I would skimp and byu a $10 kb / mouse setup. And again, the cost of the OS, even if it is on a $600 gaming PC doesn't make it an unthinkable cost.

To me, the idea that adding in the cost of an OS makes PC gaming too expensive is ridiculous.

Without the developers to support Linux, this matters not. Why even discuss it, we are never going to see all the top shelf titles for Linux. Until every new game has a Linux version, then there is no real incentive to use it for gaming.

Plus Linux can be an overly complex beast sometimes, it's super easy to screw stuff up and i have had more crashes with some distro's than i did with Windows 98...no kidding, KDE was particularly bad a couple years back at least.

You'd be wrong. Skimping on those 2 items is easy, no matter how much you spend on a PC..remember what people spend is mostly ep33n.
