JUst change ur own dang oil, its so easy to. Its cheaper also in time and money. If you can come here and look up deals and go through with them you can change your oil.

ITS NOT HARD.

For mentally challenged!!

1.) Find your drain plug in oil pan. Unscrew it with some sort of wrench (for hondas 17mm and toyotas 14mm). Unexperenced people should wait for car to be cool.

2.) Once the plug is unscrewed the oil is gonna be gushing out, so catch it with some sort of pan.

3.) While the oil drips out change the oil filter out. This involves just unscrewing the old one and putting the new one in.

4.) Then look under the car and see if the oil is finished draining, if so put the plug back in the oil pan.

5.) Then clean off excess oil around the oil pan and crawl out and put new oil at the top of the engine. Refer to you manual on how much to put.

6.) start your engine let it run for like 20 secs and turn off and check the dipstick to see the oil level.

7.) Pat yourself on the back when you finished cause you just saved yourself 10-30 bucks.

8.) Dispose of the oil in a legal and environmentally safe way (i.e. take it to your local oil change place...you know, the one you were avoiding going to in the first place).

Kudos to those who go through the trouble to save a few bucks. I'll pay for the convenience of just having it done for me.

id like to add: DONT FORGET TO OIL THE FILTER SEAL!
lol thats one of the hardest thigs to remove is a filter that hasnt been lubed

Most of us understand that its not that hard to take care of a car, we just don't want to have to bother with it.

No Kidding! Its not that I don't know how to change my oil, it's just not worth it when I can pay someone $10.99 to do it for me.

Really, I put my hands inside computers, when it comes to cars and TVs and VCRs, and anything else, screw it, let a pro deal with the hassle.

Unless it's just a matter of insurance liability, I've always wondered why some intrepid soul hasn't started a national chain of DIY repair shops, where you get a use of a bay to do your work. There was something like this at the naval base in Norfolk, Va while I was in the service in the 70's, and I always thought it would be a great idea to mass-market, like the self-storage places. yeah, you'd have to have people on duty there, fire extinguishers, disclaimers, etc., but still, who wouldn't want to have a place like that where you could do your own stuff for a small hourly fee. The owner/proprieter could make more $$$ by renting out tools, selling cleaning stuff and supplies, etc.

My change oil light came on last week, so the other day I went to go try the Walmart $30 synthetic deal. Called my mom to meet her for dinner and she said our Walmarts don't have auto centers. Has anyone in Cleveland ever seen one? I know I haven't. Maybe it's only at Super Walmarts, which we don't have around here?

what about Pennzoil?

I've only changed my oil once before (recently bought), and I went to Pennzoil. It came to about $30 with a $5 off coupon. Took about 7 minutes from pulling in to getting back into my car and driving away. I was like, whoa.

That's actually the reason I stopped going there. I have been going there for about 2-3 years, and NEVER has it taken LESS than 15 minutes: I don't know if it's just Memphis, or that particular location. The same people have worked there, so I would think they could get the process down pat. I go to the new Castrol 10 minute oil change, and they do pretty much the same thing, for about $15 less, and you get a free car wash coupon

I have always thought that would be a good idea. I have always done my own work, and It's a pain in the butt to change oil when ur car is just on some jackstands. Anyway, I cant even go to a jiffy lube or valvoline shop, nobody has the oil filter for my car yet (2k3 Pontiac Vibe). It's really annoying because I either have to go to the dealer ($$$, like $50) or I have to do it myself.

Buy the filter and take it to them. Think that would work? Possibly then ask for a few bucks off.

They had the same thing at some of the bases when I was in the army in Germany. It was pretty cool. Used to do a lot of stuff there for pretty darn cheap.

Went to PepBoys and was told I had to wait for 2 1/2 hours before my car can even be pulled in. For some reason the WalMart in my area doesn't do oil change but sells engine oil...guess I'll have to get up real early tomorrow.

I hate to talk about things off topic but which brand/kind of oil is considered best for a regular sedan?? Maybe you guys could suggest some links/websites??
Thanks

Olive oil = best for cooking
Vegetable oil = best for frying & uber-healthy cooking
Baby Oil = best for removing stuck babies off things... or gum out of hair
Motor oil = best for cars.
