So, you are fine with companies selling defective things?
Sure, it can be patched, and most things will work, but that still isn't an excuse for continuing to expect your buyers to go to some 3rd party site, and download and apply the patch.
Like I said in the OP, the GOG version already includes the basic patch. You don't have to download anything unless you want the "Plus" content, or want to try a newer version before GOG has updated their bundle.

Steam probably does too as the game almost certainly won't even launch on modern systems without it.

About once a year i'll come across Bloodlines in a forum or article and it always gets me to go back and play a game. Wish they would make a sequel.

What did you think?

I played through it with the 9.9 basic patch. It was good overall. Not great. If the game ran as good as it does now in 2004, it probably would have sold and reviewed better. It was very buggy at the time. I suppose 100+ unofficial patches are bound to make things work right. The game doesn't take itself seriously most of the time. I kinda wish it would have. A few jokes here are there are fine, but this one goes overboard. I do love me some crab nipples though.

I've never played Bloodlines but I am excited for Vampyr which comes out this June. I know some people are hoping it's the spiritual successor.

Piracy is not the answer. If anything, more sales might lead to a sequel.

I was thinking of trying it out until I read about its bugginess. Instead of a sequel, I'd prefer they fix their buggy game rather than help reinforce the idea that they can profit from producing buggy crap. I would have bought it if they asked for a fiver or less for it (UKP) but £15 is the price I'd pay for an old classic rather than an old mess that I have to go out of my way to fix.

Since many people seem to have missed it, I've updated the OP to make it clearer the GOG version already has the patch applied.

Such a great game. I played it through 3 times back in the day. I don't recall having major issues with bugs maybe I was lucky.

any suggestion on what clan to pick for the first playthrough ?

sorry if my question relates to the game instead of the politics of copyright.

Pick a Celerity character (Brujah or Toreador) and make a melee build using cutting weapons (knife/axe/katana). Celerity is bullet-time so you can zip around and carve up opponents with ease. Don't forget to put points into brawl so you can easier force-feed during combat.

For a second play-through I'd recommend a Malkavian gunfighter build maxing out Auspex. It's completely different and the zany dialog is a lot easier to understand in the context of the main story the second time around.

Third time around you can do Tremere (blood mage) or Nosferatu (sneaky), which again offer vastly different playstyles.

And make sure to always allocate the points yourself instead of the game doing it for you.

Looks like here you will be limited to only the disciplines your clan starts with, and then only to rank 5.

i got to say, i did enjoy how grossly overpowered you got to be in the first Vampire game.

in the RPG, you got clans which start strong, and clans which do not start strong but can become much stronger. Also, in practical terms, some disciplines are easier to acquire than others, because you got way more Brujah neonates lying around rather than, say, Nosferatu.

Aaand then you got horribly unbalanced clans like the City Gangrel (Celerity, Obfuscate, Protean), that basically only needs to drink one Brujah to take Potence and it's game over.

I agree on Celerity + cutting weapons. It's been awhile but I thought Toreador was a little better than Brujah if you want to charm / persuade / negotiate with people instead of always punching them in the face.

Going with bloodmagic stuff was fun although perhaps not as powerful as melee it was way cooler

Anyone who does not have this game should get it just for the eyes.

Seriously, Bloodlines has some of the most realistic and/or unsettling eyes in any game I have ever seen. Slightly reflective and glistening, with good facial movements in the eyebrows and cheeks.

I've never got interested in this game. few months ago my friend totally overwhelmed me with pros of this game and I've decided to buy it. I totally regret it. It's a way too buggy.

Yeah, I only ever played it with unofficial patches, and it's been awhile, but I don't specifically remember any bugs popping up.

If you buy it from gog.com they also host the patch there (it might even be in the install) in case anyone is worried about downloading from moddb.
