You can buy the CDs for all 6 albums for ~$35 on Amazon (remastered), so the quality of these would have to be way better to make it worth buying.

Signup was painless, get a free sampler to see if you like HD.

YMMV, my personal view is that recording and mastering make the sonic differences, but sometimes you have to pay for the sonically useless extra bits to get to the best mastering. Other times you don't, and/or the remaster is worse. For more info on the subject of best versions and mastering try http://forums.stevehoffman.tv/

This is really cool, but it's too bad VH isn't my cup of tea. I hope this trend can be followed by other HQ music releases.

MP3 compression apologists aside, compression is compression. The format was created for an era in which dial-up internet was the norm. Let's move away from that now.

I tend to agree with this. Minimum $80 for 6 albums is still $13.33 each (edit: I guess with the discount it's minimum $72, but that's still $12 each). That seems like a lot? I agree with moving away from compression now that "baud" is an archaic term, but still, these prices are higher than (edit: or at least the same as) retail prices when the albums were originally released (I remember buying cassettes and CDs at Tower records and the like, in this time period, on release day, for $11.99 or lower), which seems strange. That said, this kind of stuff isn't as mainstream yet as it probably should be, so for the true fan I can see this being a great opportunity/deal.

Based on the claims the audio quality should be comparable to an SACD or DVD-A, not a CD. Given the price of those discs this is still a deal.

Good point. I didn't consider that in my previous comment.

So would this still be worth it for the aiff version? I could stream it to my denon receiver and klipsch speakers via an appletv more easily (I think). Please correct me if I'm wrong.

Thanks

Same coffee different mug. Download whatever container format that works best for you. Aiff and wav are probably the largest downloads.

You just need some golden ears, thats the technical term for those who can hear minute differences, just not during blind testing.
