I'm not from YVR but I am sure if you go to some sites they should give you rental info and such.

I know some people from Vancouver BC(and the times I am up there, 2hr drive from seattle) thing impression I get is, retail in general are quite cheap and restaurants are world class there. The housing though are pricey$$.

Vancouver is probably the most beautiful city in North America, so quite your belly-aching about "having" to move there. I grew up there and would move back in a heartbeat if the opportunity arose. You'll love it. Yes, real estate is very expensive, but you'll do OK. 40k US is about 60K canadian, so if you get a raise on top of that you will be able to have a pretty decent lifestyle. There are lots of surounding areas that are much less expensive.
Go check out the city--I think you will find that it offers an amazing lifestyle--especially if you are into skiing or the outdoors, etc...

Depending on what area you want to live in and what type of accomadations you want?

Condo's downtown range from 500- 1500 sq ft............. I have a buddy who rents his 550 square foot condo for $1300 downtown but I also have a friend who is renting a 1200 sq ft 2 bedroom for $1300.

In trendy areas like Kit Beach area, Commercial Drive & Kerrisdale expect to pay $700-1200 for a 800 sq ft place.

Basement Suites in houses range from $450- 1000 a months.......... basically you get the basement level of the house. Sometimes you can get a whole house for $1000 but in a poorer area of town (not ghetto).

Housing prices are made crazy.......... average for Vancouver is around $260K for a standards size lot of 33 * 120 ft. Condo's range from $125K to $250K, unless your talking about the real good stuff in Coal Harbour ($500K - $1.5 million). The real estate market is real hot right now.

Were is your company located......... in Vancouver or in the suburbs (if it's in Surrey, Quit your job )? Rent is a bit cheaper in the suburbs but transit sucks @ss unless your actually in the Vancouver area.

Try this site for some idea on the local rental prices.

Homeclicks.com

I'll try to get more rental site.

Cheers,
Aquaman

I don't know the current housing price in Vancouver at the moment, and there hasn't been a price increase in the area for the last 5 years.....5 years ago a nice one bed room apartment/condo can be had for $750~850 in Eastside and add another $100 to get a second bedroom. One bedroom in Westside or the yuppy Kitsilano area can be had for around $900~1300. If you look around you will be able to get a nice 2 or 3 bedroom house for around $1500 in Kerrisdale.

LOL, yea, stay away from Slurrey!!

Night life's great, so I hear.(not a club kinda person, don't live there anymore either)

I think you're going to love Vancouver. In the winter there's skiing within 20mins driving, sailing within 20mins, and you can listen to 99.3 the Fox for all your fine musical needs(unless your a Pop/Techno/Country/Classical/Rap freak)
Symphony of fire and the Molson Indy...and too many more events to list. Not to mention, though obviously I am, the finest green in the world!!!

Put me down as another person who would love to be in your shoes! Vancouver is an absolutely beautiful city; I always hate to leave when I visit on business. If my company was willing to pay me more to make up for the more expensive housing, I'd be driving the rental truck full of my worldy possessions north tomorrow morning! Enjoy your good fortune!

Vancouver doesn't have that great of a nightlife... Montreal and Toronto have better.. it's not great but it's not bad. You'll definately enjoy it there though.

The night life is not too bad.....most places are close by 2:00am. You will not find a better place for Chinese food short of Hong Kong, and the Vietnamese food is only second to Santa Ana, Orange County. There are also plenty of Thai, Japanese, Korean, Indian, Greek, Italian & Spaniard restaurants. Don?t waste your money at the over price restaurant in the West Van, North Van, or Westside, because the best food to be had is the ethnic Eastside.

You will catch the out door fever that the Wet Coast...err West Coast, because Skiing & sailing is a 30 min drive. While, parks & hiking is second to none only 5~15 min away depending on where you live. There are many get away places such as the gulf islands, Vancouver Island & Sun Shine Coast. Art & craft is also a big thing in Vancouver & the surrounding area. The BC pottery guild is among the largest guild in the world...you will find island such as Denman, Hornby, Thetis & Saltsping Island sole commodity is base upon tourism and pottery/art & craft.
