I was wondering if anyone got theirs (silver) yet and also have a silver Chieftec/Antec case. I was wondering how the two silvers match up. From the pictures that I have seen, the silver from the Vantec is more of a metallic shiny silver while the silver on my case is more of a greyish silver.

i got mine today and i tested just one connector (fan2 i think) in an old system and it worked so i plugged it into mine with fans on all 4 lines and i get a burning smell... turn it off and check all lines in the old system and the 4th fan line is b0rked ..... and the noise was pretty audible... dunno how loud it would be with 5+ fans on since i wasnt able to test it for more than 20 secs :/

at least newegg has a good RMA department

hmm, thats not too good Walker. Hopefully yours was a dud or something. I'd probably freak out to see smoke coming from it........

To update on my last post - SVC came thru for me with good customer service and sent mine out(original order did not go out). Can't wait to get it but keep reading of problems with it(Vantec 201) in other posts/threads.

I got this contoller recently, and within 5 minutes it started smoking. I only had two regular case fans connected to it, so there's no way i overloaded it. I sent it back in for replacement. we'll see if the new one works better.

The Vantec one and the Sunbeam one are fairly different, but esentially do the same thing: the vantec uses pulse width modulation to vary the voltage so there isn't much heat generated and the Sunbeam one seems to use a simple variable resistor circuit to adjust the voltage. This causes a lot of heat as you can see from the big heatsinks on the Sunbeam model. I'm not really sure which one would be better, but like i said in my earlier post, the vantec one i got started smoking only after a few minutes of operation. I might just have gotten a bad sample or something. The main reason i got the vantec one was because i thought it looked a lot cooler with the blue leds, and all the reveiws i read said it worked great. I just hope i got a dud, cause i dont' feel like paying return shipping and a 15% restocking fee if my replacement does the same thing the first one did.

There's a thread about these and why they've been shorting. Search for nexus and you may find it. Basically, their pcb and the holders of the frame seem to rub and the metal of the frame grounds against one of the traces on the pcb.

This causes a lot of heat as you can see from the big heatsinks on the sunbeam model

Got mine in today and those "whatevertheyare" stay cold. I have a tornado fan one one, a cathode and 4 80mm fans on the other 2. Only place it gets warm is on the bottom. And on the bottom sunbeam placed foam there.

Only thing I don't like about is it only has 3 pin connectors. I'm using 4 to 3 pin adapters I made. Otherwise this one so far is a winner. Far better than that vantac one. And those led's are very bright.
