This thing is a cheap POS.

I really wanted to like it, and on my SECOND nxp-201(first one fried in 10 seconds), I thought it was going to work out really well.

30 Minutes later however, while eating dinner, I smelled that familiar stench of burning electronics. This time, not only was it my Nexus NXP-201, but also my Athlon 2100+!!! Seems as though it stopped sending power to all my fans... Nice, eh?

Seemed like a good product from a wll known/respected company. It is NOT. Feel free to try it if you like. I hope it works for you, but it failed terribly on me... TWICE!

There is no wrong way to hook it up, so it is fool proof(which is prolly why i bought it in the first place )

This is not the way I wanted to go about upgrading my CPU!

Vantec has lost me as a customer because of all this.

Anyone else try this thing and have any problems?

Rat.

You are smarter than I.

I foolishly believe that something I purchase(then fires and get a second one) will work. Shame on me!

I had 2 fans attached, CPU and rear case fan.

Jus tthinking about it makes me mad...

To all others reading this... DONT BUY THIS PRODUCT!

man, and I just ordered this thing from SVC. It hasn't arrived yet though. Do you think they are good on returns? Will they charge a restocking fee even if I haven't opened it yet?

I was really looking forward to this product, and I tried to ignore the bad things I heard about it and convinced myself that it would work fine. But this is a little much.........

Well, like I said, I really hope it works for you.. But I went thru 2 of them and they both died quickly(10 seconds for one and 30 mins for the other)...

If you do keep it and try it, please let us know how/if it worked for you... AND DONT HOOK UP YOUR CPU FAN TO IT!

Good Luck.

I definitley wont hook it up to my cpu fan at first. And as long as the smoke that comes from the controller wont hurt my computer if it burns then I'll try it.

btw, if you find any other fan controllers/rhobus's that look as cool and are as easy to set up as this one, let me know.

This really sux to hear that some are having bad luck with this fan controller. I thought it would be the premo one to get.

Been using this baybus and it has done me well. But I love the variable control that the new Vantec one gives you. Mine came in today and it's in my second system now so I can see if it is ok before putting it in my main system. Didn't hook it up to the cpu fan but I did to 2 lighted antec fans on one channel, a vantec tornado on one channel and 2 stealths on the other 2 channels. So far all is well.

And I sure do love the looks. And it was far easier to install than the other one. But you guys getting ones that burned out quickly scares me. How many fans and what wattage did you place in each channel? And what power supply?

I think I'll try it out.

In case it sux though, the rhoebus at xoxide.com has caught my eye. Looks fairly easy to hook up, just strip the wires and screw them down. The leds aren't as cool, but oh well.

Where did you guys order from? could be possible newegg got a bad shipment or something?

well mine still works, just the 4th knob wont adjust voltage and it still smells a bit of burning electronics

i have a Turbolink 420W psu and i had connected 2 panaflo L1As on the extension cables for exhaust and then 2 vantec stealths for intake so it was not a big load at all, and nothing could have been mis wired

i havent tried all 4 again on my old system or anything for obvious reasons

hopefully my next one will be better, its a nice unit, except the crackling noise it makes on low could be a bit annoying, wasnt able to see if i could hear it over my system cuz my system wasnt on long enuf be4 i smelt that lovely smell

I have the Enermax 400w PSU.. Cant remember the Model off the top of my head. It was controlling only 2 fans. 1 (stupidly) was my Thermaltake Volcano 7+ and the other is a sunon 60mm fan on the back of the case pulling air out.

The 4th knob never worked on either model and the smoldering from both of them started on the 4th fan connector... Coincedence?

Its OK.. This way I can upgrade I suppose and a lesson was learned.

Blade: What did you mean by this?

How many fans and what wattage did you place in each channel?

Not sure I understand.. How many items are connected to one set of cables from the PSU? You should know that anyone that hooks up his CPU fan to this POS isnt smart enough to understand this problem.

As it stands now, it works BUT:

1) It stinks like Burnt electronics.

2) It works for about the first 25 seconds, then all fan control is lost. Either you cant adjust the speed anymore, or it cuts all power to the fans connected to it.

You want it?

Did you guys, by chance, happen to take note of the loads it can handle and take that into account when hooking crap up to it?

If not, I can't say you deserved it, but you sure can't blame it on the nexus.

Where would it be documented the loads it can handle?

There is no instructions of any kind... Nothing. Not on the box, in the box, on the hardware itself.

I hooked up 2 fans total.... 1 to Fan controller 1 and another to Fan controller 2.

Can it not handle that?

Please explain...

It can handle 15-18 watts per channel. and I'm positive you did not exceed that....

1 CPU Fan(Volcano 7+) = How many watts?

1 Sunon 60mm Case fan = How many watts?

I thought this install was idiot proof, and still think it is. I just think it is a poorly made product.

I doubt those fans put together even exceed 10 watts.

Anyway, I got mine today and installed it.

Hooked a 50 CFM sunon exhaust fan to channel 2. And a 39 CFM sunon intake fan to channel 3.

I didn't hook up my CPU fan or my other two fans. So far everthing is ok, it looks really cool and controls the fans pretty good.

The only thing I hate about it is the friggin noise! That stupid buzzing sound, its easier to hear than I thought it would be. But I guess I could get over that. But it does get really annoying when the fans are on low.

I let you guys know how it goes in the next day or so.

Just wanted to know how many fans you had on each channel and about what wattage they were. That's all.

So far mine it still doing just fine. Put a 92mm fan on one channel and still have a tornado on onother, 2 antec lighted fans on one and a 4k rpm fan on the last channel. The tornado is rated at about 9.1 watts and the others are less. So going by Vantec's specs I should be able to place another tornado on the same channel as I have the one. Or at least several smaller wattage fans.

The only thing I hate about it is the friggin noise!

I never noticed that till you brought it up. But I have to place my ear right to it before I can hear that slight buzzing sound. Possibly it's just quieter on mine.

Mine came from svc btw.

Merry Christmas!

she looks good, she looks fine and then I nearly lost my mind :disgust: :frown:

Well......deep subject huh. Put this nice looking toy in my main system and nothing but troubles. First boot the cpu fan started, then shut down. So I flicked the power switch off quickly. Tried again thinking maybe I didn't have it in all the way. Booted up, then new problems. Seems one channel where I had a fan connected to was not powering that fan, but when I moved the knob it had a little control of the fan connected to the next channel. Huh!?

I go through many boots, each time trying something new. Connecting it directly to the power supply, change the fans around, and each time it was the same. It would sometimes change which channel would not work, but one channel control always controlled the one next to it, to a degree. But, there would always be one channel that would not work with a fan connected to it.

So I put it back on my other system where it seemed to work well. Same weird troubles.

If you do get this device I strongly sugges to NOT connect the cpu fan to it.

Sorry to hear your problems Blade...

I will go one step further than you and I recommend NOT buying this cheap POS at all.

While it is a very good idea, and it looks really nice, it does not perform AT ALL!!
