I have 2 front intakes on one channel, exhaust, blowhole and CPU fan (TT Smartfan2) on the other 3 controllers. Hardest part was extending my fan wires to reach it, which wasn't hard at all. So you can get the idea that the entire install was a piece of cake.

Thanks for the info... Guess I dont need to keep an overhead light on low for typing while playing FPS'.

Mine should arrive next tuesday, so we shall see.

I am planning on getting one of these now since I have heard that Vantec fixed the problems that caused all this confusion. I do not think I will have a problem since I will be hooking up only 1 Tornado fan and nothing else.

Please post if there are any other problems with Nexus' that were bought within the last 2 or so weeks. I will be getting mine from Fry's.

Also, when I turn the computer on with a fan like the Tornado hooked up with this fan controller turned down, does it use full power at first to get the fan going, then goes down to the lower power?

OK.. I have my Sunbeam Rheobus VERSION 2. Make sure you get version 2... I guess version 1 sucks.

It is perfect! Exactly what I THOUGHT I was buying with that nexus POS. No buzzing at low voltage. It even changes color from blue to red when you turn the knob to lower than 7 volts.

I HIGHLY recommend it.

I got it from SVC.COM

question: are the leds alternating like that blue red blue red? if so, how hard would it be to switch those out to all blue?

The Vantec does not do this.. Only the Sunbeam.

They are always blue if you have them running at full power(12 volts). Once you turn the knob lower, it changes to red when it hit 7 volts and/or lower.

I bought one in the beginning of January and it has been working 24/7 with 5 fans attached (CPU, 2 Front intakes, 1 intake Blowhole and 1 outake) without any problems whatsoever. My PSU is an Enermax 365

The last two channels have fried on my unit. I bought mine from www.crazyPC.com at the end of December. I only turned the thing on about 5 times and then it smoked. The thing has the same problems as alot of you have previously listed. Just letting you know that another person has had this problem. I really hope they fix this problem since I modded a LianLi bezel for it and it turned out perfect and took alot of time getting it to the exact dimensions.

I had a 5k athlon fan, 2xlighted antec fan, 2x lighted antec fan, 2x120mm sunon fans on my vantec, respectively. I havent had an issue with it. I was on the waiting list to get one, maybe the first batch were made with higher quality products?

Hey everyone. I long ago ordered that Nexus, I read this post in time and canceled my order. I decided to wait some months before a good version was released that could really handle some power. I just bought the Sunbeam Rheobus that works like a charm with 5, smartcaseII fans and 1 80mm Tornado. Its only 20$ and runs 20watts per channel, also it power off each port with a nice crisp click of the nob. Well worth the 20$. Forget Nexus, unless they are releasing new improved version. Just thought I would share my situation for any looking for a good Fan Controller. Go to this website, I recieved mine in 3 days, super fast service.

svc.com

PS I just reread some of those posts. wow , I just found that on my own too, looks like you all already knew. oops

I have the Nexus controller, purchased from Directron I believe. I have 3 80mm fans connected to channel 1, and my 120mm radiator fan on channel 2. It's been working great for the past couple months or so, but I'm sure going to keep an eye on it now! Hopefully nothing will fry.....:frown:

^ If you're worried about a flame out, use the washer fix if you don't have one with the redesigned PCB. Take it out, and see if one of the screws on the corners of the PCB tightens down onto a trace. If it does, put a washer there to block contact. For safe measure, put washers on all four screws that go through the PCB (that's what I intend to do).

No use waiting for a problem to occur when it's so easily fixed.

You mean the circuit traces on the backside of the PCB?

Here, I had my camera out anyway so I'll just show you. Mine actually arrived pre-fixed, oddly enough. Bought it from SVC.

Picture

The screw where the washer is would actually short out that circuit under / next to it because there was nothing but the coating on the PCB between them - which breaks down fairly easy. That's what was causing them to smoke out. A washer will save you the heartache.
