I am looking to pick up 2 1TB WD green drives to replace my 2 500gb drives. I've decided to make both drives external, and was intrigued by the dual-enclosure offerings of Vantec/Kingwin/etc. However, I just read a review that might have clouded what I thought was an understanding of the "JBOD" mode that they will use.
Here's what I want:
e-SATA support with one enclosure, holding 2x1TB drives. I'll be putting my music collection on one of the drives, and making a backup every few days onto the 2nd drive. I will not be using RAID, as I don't want the backup to be realtime. I was thinking I'd use a JBOD setting, which I thought would make the enclosure show 2 separate drives to Windows... i.e. Drive D: 1tb, and Drive E: 1tb, both drives being in this enclosure. Is this how JBOD works, or does it fill one drive then move onto the other? I want two physically separate drives in one dual enclosure to show up as 2 physically separate drives in Windows.
Please let me know quickly if this is how JBOD works, or if I'd need to actually get 2 separate 1-drive enclosures to have them show up separately.
