Vantec Stealth fans really noisy

I just bought 160$ worth of equipment (Zalman heatsink for my video card, thermaltake silent boost cpu cooler and 2 Vantec Stealth 120mm fans). I needed a silent PC for my room, and now I'm quite disapointed with those fans. They emit a loud roar (not a whine thank god) and I don't like it, especially that it cost me 50$ CAN. Now my question is, would a rheobus like the hardcano 9 work with those fans? If so, would those fans be silent at its lowest setting?
Finally what is the lowest voltage of that rheobus (it isn't listed in the specs and I'd like to know as information)

Oh yeah, would the hardcano 9 fit in my antec SLK3700AMB (with the door)?

Thanks

Justin

they are ball bearing, they do make a noise...low roar yes. rheobus works fine.

u sure ur psu isn't making noise?
also make sure the fans aren't blocked by lousy grills that create turbulece

well the case grill, but that's it ... and no the PSU isn't noisy. It's an antec smart power. as for the rheobus, would it lower the roar enough so that it wouldn't make any perceptible noise?

and when i bought the vantec, I relied on the smaller stealth fan reviews i've seen (and heard).

What your likely hearing is just the sound of the air being pushed through the fan and possible through the grill. If its a standard drilled type grill on the case you might want to cut it out with a dremel or sheet metal cutters. It'll give the fan less resistence and maybe make a tad bit of difference.

Otherwise, running the fan at 7v or even 5v would make them pretty much silent.

I thought the Stealths were a bit loud as well. But I also think at full speed, a Panaflo L1A is loud too!

Then again, people say I'm picky

I bought a Sunbeam rheobus and you can turn the voltage down to zero. Sunbeams also provide plenty of watts per channel and is relatively cheap. I bought mine for $25 CAD. The knobs are short enough that my Sonata case door can close.

The Stealths and virtually every other "quiet" fan will make some noticable noise at 12 V. Quiet fans become virtually silent after the voltage is lowered.

Unfortunately, the Stealths do have some bearing noise at low voltage. Panaflow's hydro-wave bearing fans are probably a better choice overall, but you will quiet the Stealths down by lowering the voltage.

Too bad you didn't choose a True-Power instead of the Smart-Power, because those have a thermo-regulated "fans only" connector for your case fans.

ah its a smart poewr, i almost missed that. i have a smart power too, its #@% loud. i disconected its fans and reconnected em to my fan speed controller.

Same here makes a great difference, but does not monitor fan speeds. So watch your temps. Also keep in mind that every time you silence one part, another part that seemed totally quiet before - makes some sort of irritating noise. I think the cheapest solution may be to put the computer in a sound proof closet.

For silent computing, it's inevitable to go to SCPR

BTW for the SLK3700AMB, you should cut out the back grill, undervolt the fans and use a smaller fan for the intake. The intake fan doesn't really do anything other than cooling the hard drive.

Thanks for the suggestion guys. The grill doesn't seem to do much in terms of noise (I put the fan in my hand and it still made the same low roaring annoying sound). I bought a vantec nexus (it was pretty cheap and available, I did ask for the sunbeam, but they only had the sunbeam cigarette lighter ) and it does an ok job of lowering the noise (minimum voltage is 7V) at the expense of airflow. Already the airflow was bad with 53 cfm, and now ... well it's low.
So wtvr ... my quest for a silent PC has been foiled. Next I'll just buy a watercooling kit and just take the case fans out ... it would've been cheaper.

Justin

PS: The smartpower PSU is silent enough for me ... for now !
