The camera looks nice. $100 for a dash cam with such specifications is a very good deal. But Vantrue is a new brand to me. Anyone has this? How does it work?

How often does your car get to 158F?
lol. every day.

and past it. Usually to about 80C. I'm not even in Florida, this is Atlanta...

I've been through 4 cellphone batteries because of it. Put one in, it pops (bloats due to the heat). Happens ~75C. 70C is ok. 75C is the problem.

80C everyday.. Wow! That's incredible. In that case, you might not leave anything with battery inside the car when parked. Dangerous!!

well, I don't leave my actual phone inside the car, not current one at least. This was an old Evo 3D that I was using for Torque. Oh well....

well for pet, I could understand, kid not so much. Kid can sweat.
Sometimes you get hot, thirsty. Life is uncomfortable. not the end of the world

Not the end of the world?
Tell that to the approximately 37 children who die EVERY YEAR in the US from being left inside cars. It was certainly the end of the world for them. http://noheatstroke.org/

Not enough for you.

Off topic, but you need to be corrected.

Yes, it could be the end of the world, in a very short period of time.

21C outside is 70F. Dog could be dead in 20 minutes and a child in 40 minutes.

Now imagine how quickly it would be if the outside temps are 90-100F.

""It is never OK to leave kids or pets in a car -- even with the windows down,” says Christopher McStay, MD, an emergency room doctor and assistant professor of emergency medicine at New York University Langone Medical Center. “It is an absolute no-no.""

9. A car can reach 110 degrees when temperatures are only in the 60s. Heat stroke can take place when the outside temperature is as low as 57 degrees.

10. The body temperatures of children can increase three to five times faster than adults. Heat stroke begins when the body passes 104 degrees.

http://www.mynrma.com.au/motoring-services/education/children/hot-cars.htm

"On a typical Australian summer day, the temperature inside a parked car can be 30° - 40°C hotter than outside the car.

That means that on a 30°C (86F) day, the temperature inside the car could be as high as 70°C! (*158F)

75% of the temperature increase occurs within five minutes of closing the car "

Didn't mean to stir a hornets nest! I've never left my kid in an unattended car but my dog, I have... but only with all the windows down and sunroof open. I suppose I'll have to re-think that.

Back on topic, I've never really thought about car temperature being a hazard to electronics (at least not unless we're talking about direct sunlight). I will be taking note of that from now on, thanks to this thread.

Yea I went through 3 dashcams (they would last a day or two, then I'd have to return it) before I thought something was fishy and realized that maybe they were overheating in the car. :hmm:

Took my infrared thermometer and measured 190 degrees Fahrenheit (nearly 88 degrees C) on the dash with closed windows.

I live in LA so 90 degrees outside is normal but it was still surprising to me that it got that hot.

Generally I will take off the camera from the windsheild when parked the car outside, to get rid of theft, and overheating.
