Once a problem is gone, why go through the massive headache of using it? It adds tons more work, so it make sense that we don't see it being used all that often, now that there isn't much to see.

Well, like I said, it is a huge headache to use. They got their point across, now that it isn't news, they stopped bothering. We still see it used from time to time, but mostly it isn't due to the extra work.

I doubt it is to protect Nvidia. It is ALL US sites, as you mentioned, not just the ones you consider Nvidia shills.

It's only news when AMD CF isn't smooth. When NV SLI isn't smooth, it's not news worthy.

The point is the US sites who herald FCAT as a new standard in gaming benchmarks (TR, PCPer) ditched it as soon as Maxwell SLI showed horrible frame times and AMD CF was better. Not all US sites jump on the FCAT bandwagon. [H] did not, they can see smoothness in actual gameplay and they even said 980 SLI wasn't smooth when R290X CF provided smooth gameplay in their initial reviews.

When it was stopped, things were pretty good on both sides. I'm more inclined to believe the stop was simply because of the added work and the lack of newsworthy data.

If the problem is reoccurring, it may resurface again from time to time.

Heck, Tom's Hardware still shows it in their reviews, so it's not all US sites, obvioiusly: http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/nvidia-geforce-gtx-980-ti,4164-4.html

Look at the frame time variance charts. I'm not sure the tool used to get the frame time variance, but they sure are testing for the same problem.

Edit: Looking at some of the single card variance charts, it appears the problem may not even be an SLI/CF issue. Some of these charts bad for both AMD and Nvidia single cards.

I'm more interested in an inexpensive tweaked Hawaii with 8GB of vram.

Why?

Just get a cheaper Hawaii now, or 2. Its not really powerful enough to need more than 4GB. If you NEED more than 4GB, then you probably want a 980Ti or Fiji...

Looks like everyone's all done discussing Radeon Fury here.
