Vatican Rejects Intelligent Design?

"A Vatican representative has expressed a defense of the theory of evolution, stating that it is "perfectly compatible" with the Genesis story of creation. "The fundamentalists want to give a scientific meaning to words that had no scientific aim," he said at a Vatican press conference. He said the real message in Genesis was that "the universe didn't make itself and had a creator"."

hmmm I say good for the Vatican. It is obvious (at least to me) that this "Intelligent Design" in the science classrooms is driven by some pretty radical thinking.

why can't theology or religious history be a place where intelligent design is discussed and taught?

Both you guys seem pretty new to P&N. Welcome.

This has been brought up many times here.

Theology & Religious history is now the replacement for science class in the U.S., you guys should be thrilled.

Not having to deal with brain-dead crap like this is probably a large reason why the OP and others "quietly read" P&N instead of participating. I realize bleating the same lines over and over and over is probably easier than independent and critical thought, but why not at least give it a try once in a while, eh?

Why dont YOU just slink back to OT, noone paged the peanut gallery nor asked for you to attack a member, better go hurry, I think someone may get to feel his girlfriends boobs in OT and you wouldnt want to miss the action.

Dave is perfectly capable of making an ass of himself if he sees fit and does not need a cheerleader stalking him ok?

the only logic i see in ID is that perhaps the aliens designed us and seeded us here. but even that's far fetched.

I believe that all things were created by God.

Is it possible that God used evolution to do it? yes.

Let's see if we can find an appropriate response from the archives. Ah, this one will works rather well:

You are always on a smear mission, what scares you about certain posters words?

Why do you feel so threatened you must go so far out of your way to stalk people and discredit them? Sounds like moonie needs to give you a little talk of self-hate and projection.

Do us all a favor and change your tampon next time you post about me, your like a whiney teenage girl with a crush after being told off.
Sage advice, if I do say so myself. :lips:

Scientology anyone?

And a  to the Vatican. Our schools aren't places for theology.

It was the most likely situation I could think of. Odds are still 1 in a bazillion. My personal thoughts on our origins are that we will NEVER know, and it doesn't matter all that much to begin with.

Guess we'll find out shortly as 17 States have turned to Intelligent Design instead of Science.

the right-wing religious radicals are a great stumbling block that impedes progress on a wide range of issues in this country. the religious right is dead wrong on everything from ID to stem cell research. their agenda must be stopped at all costs, otherwise America will be outpaced the countries who once looked up to us as the beacon for science/technology/social progress. it's amazing how backwards our country is becoming: banning gay marriages, not funding stem cell research, promoting ID in schools over evolution, the list goes on and on.

Where are your scientific exploration lines drawn?

I just have to say about the guy who said God used evolution to make man. You can't have it both ways. I take a Theology class. Last year we focused in on the fundamentalist vs. contextualist, and I found the whole thing to be hypocritical at the least. Science trumps religion in a subject, and the religion adopts it as part of what God meant. I'm not trying to attack you or Christianity or any other faith, hey, you can believe what you want, and I can believe you are wrong. But you guys saying that you can just adapt your religion around the times you are in is preposterous. It has happened all through history, and people have gone along with it. Remember about 80 years ago, the Scopes-Monkey trial. Religion was all over that, claiming the destruction of faith because of this radical idea. Now, people are less inclined towards faith, because science holds the answers, and suddenly religion incorporates the idea.

Good. Since the vatican has rejected ID, there is no basis in saying it is a religious policy.

Wow.

You just get better all the time.

How exactly is this 'good' for you - it still doesn't make ID have anything to do with science.

Indeed...now it's not science OR religion. Would that put it in the same catagory as the beliefs of the UFO nuts and people who think they've seen bigfoot?

Exactly. I'm not saying I agree with your views on God, but I for one have never understood why it has to be God vs science, with regards to evolution or anything else.

Because you can't "win" when you decide to co-exist peacefully. It's all about driving a wedge between people. Strife == money & power, unfortunately.
