According to this site it is and in limited quantities. They quote numbers of less than 20k at launch making it akin to a paper launch so we shall see how many they actually have available. Late June seems to be later than originally planned and definitely later than some AMD staffers have recently led people to believe. If it forces a price drop I'll be happy and everyone will win.

It would be almost impossible to have that low amount of cards ready for June, if there were production issues, they would have said so in the investor meeting they just had. Instead, they said that all is going as planned.

AMD said the launch was still scheduled for Q2. They also said Q2 revenues would be down. And Year-over-Year revenues will only be up 12%, per AMD. This is with launching RX 5xx, VEGA, Ryzen desktop, Naples Server, Zen APUs, etc. We are not seeing the whole picture here.

Did you look into previous Nvidia/AMD enthusiast-class GPUs and how many were available/sold in those as well? Did you determine that 20k at launch was equivalent of a paper-launch because of sensationalist articles?

Well mr wizard we live in a world with 7 billion people so if you divide 20k by that figure that pretty much says nonexistent. Furthermore, if you take into consideration how many recognized countries there are at the UN (currently 196 countries) and then then divide 20k by that amount it pretty much says that very few people will get to see this card at launch hence the term paper launch. Just in case you aren't very good at math that works out to 102 cards per country.

In the U.S. with a population of 321.4 million people that works out to 0.00006222775 of the population. Still confused?

Consider that a huge number of people couldn't afford the price tag, that massively changes the dynamics. Of those who can even afford it, the vast majority of those aren't gaming enthusiasts, of those a decent chunk aren't looking at buying a new card right now, and those that are mostly look to Nvidia because reasons.

Then it's not a paper launch anymore.

I hope they pull it off and kick their competitors right in the teeth. This will be a win win situation for us all. I am very interested in Whitehaven and vega and if the performance is really superior AMD will find its way back into my desktop.
