So, looks like maybe +/-$100 for OEM AIO cooler, and $50 for custom brushed aluminium(?) shroud. Not horrible.

Miners will just undervolt and underclock ti'll they find the sweetspot. All cards are mem bandwidth limited anyway so underclocking the core doesn't cut hashpower much if at all.

Here is a Holocube demo, with a Vega... Fast fwd to the 2:12 mark to skip the fluff.
Not sure what good it is, I would think it would be distracting to get messages/gfx in that.

So full Vega starts at $499 for reference, and cut down Vega starts at $399 for reference...that's pretty good...especially if the $399 Vega performs well.

Unless they cripple it some other way, I expect the drop from 64 to 56 CUs to have very little effect on performance. ROPs, shader units, and memory bandwidth look to be the bottlenecks.

I'd be interested to see how a Hawaii-configuration Vega (44 CUs, 64 ROPs, ~320 GB/sec bandwidth) would do compared to Hawaii and RX Vega. That would help determine whether Vega 10 was just an unbalanced design (like Fiji was), or if the architecture itself is bad.

A $399 Vega 56 CU with 8gb will sell well despite a high TDP as it'd probably be 10% faster than a GTX 1070.

$499+ full Vega with similar GTX 1080 is DOA as a gaming card.

Yes, the $399 card (if the price rumor is true) would be great. I think it'll do as good as Fury Pro, or RX 470 did against FuryX and Rx480 - that is basically perform at the same level. So, to get 1080 level performance (or more as the drivers mature), under $400 will be awesome.

Now, if only the miners can let some of us actually buy the cards.

What are the chances that the small Vega will be non HBM memory and more GDDR5? possibly 4GB

Zero.
There is no GDDR5X at all, it would take a re-design, unless they implemented dual memory controller technology, but that would have been more expensive, and AMD don't have the funds to do that.

You know, "AMD Radeon RX Vega 64" is such a odd naming scheme.
Are they trying to make people think of the Athlon 64 days?

From Rage, Rage II, Rage Pro, Rage 128, Rage 128 Ultra, Rage Fury MAXX to Radeon 7x00/8x00/9x00 to Radeon X700/X800/X1300 - X1950, then Radeon HD 2x00 - 8xx0 then back to Radeon 2xx-5xx, toss in the Fury again, and now Vega 64 & Vega 56?

They should have just gone with AMD Radeon Vega RX690 & AMD Radeon Vega RX685.

Just add another name to the forgotten list - Vega. Like Fury before it. I was excited when it was revealed AMD wanted to create a product stack I inferred to be equal to the "Titan" branding. A halo product that will demand top dollar. Instead they launched "Fury" and treated it like some bargain brand product, price cutting it within a few months of launch.

Why even create a new "name" tier if it's not going to stand above your product stack? You don't see NV dragging "Titan" through the price brackets.

Radeon RX 590 would have been enough. EDIT: Toss a 64 and 56 at the end to identify the models.

I'm ok with the model name; the name is indicative of the underlying hardware: Radeon for GPU, RX for gaming, Vega for architecture, 64 for number of cores (64 * 64 = 4096).

Yeah, but it just adds needless bloat to the names. Would the next generation of Polaris have a name Radeon RX Polaris 20? Or if we get a smaller version of Vega keep the Vega name? Radeon RX Vega 32?

EDIT: Or refreshes of Vega that keep the same core counts? Radeon RX Vega 64 v2.0?

on one hand I want to grab one right away before it lands in the hands of a filthy miner (nothing personal, I just don't appreciate the high-demand prices) but on the other it's going to be hard to get one next month and there's zero info on OC models

Can't wait to see water blocks for Single Slot VEGA cards. Guess I'll be going for regular air cooler shroud since it'll come off anyways.

Please guys, not the name issue again? Nothing can please everyone and besides, has no one ever read Shakespeare.

Heh, I was gonna post that exact shot of Vega FE.
So, adding 1 more VRM adds a few hundred to the price?

The naming is fine for us, but think about average consumers?
How confusing would it be to see RX 560 --> RX 570 --> RX 580, then suddenly out of nowhere Vega 56 and Vega 64?

Titan gets away with it because it's a massive halo product that gets marketed to all hell. You know a Titan is the fastest there is. AMD could have done it with Fury, but they ditched that name.

Looks like Vega 64 will have 2 8-pin connectors, and Vega 56 will have 1 8-pin & 1 6-pin for the reference design.

Was hoping they wouldn't do that, but, perhaps their partners will have 2x8 on both.
