Vegas virgin here. So is my wife. We're in need of some advice.
Now first, I know this question has been asked before. I've searched through the past threads and combed through some of the recommendations there. So I've already made a few decisions. Based on previous recommendations, we are 1 step away from booking at the Vdara. It sounds pretty good, but at this point since we have yet to go to Vegas, it's kinda a crapshoot with 0 experience. As far as time is concerned, we're looking to arrive on a Wednesday night and leave Sunday night. I know it's not much time, but our vacation time is a bit full this year.
Anyhow, I like to gamble. I like to gamble in the sense that poker isn't a simple game of statistics the moment you pull a slot machine bar. It's much more entertaining knowing that ones own skills can actually play the ultimate factor in the end result. That said though, I want to play for some overall fun. I don't want to spend the majority of our time at casinos at tables. Nor do I want to plop a bunch of money on a table to lose.
Here is where we need help. I'm not sure what else to do... Should I book some shows in advance? How is the pricing? I'm really hoping to not have to plop down $300 for a pair of tickets to a show.
Overall questions:
1) How expensive is it to do things? Shows, events, dinners, etc...
2) What shows should we see? I tend to enjoy more along the lines of adult humor rather than trying to amaze the crowd.
3) Recommend some restaurants. Personally, I love craft beer and pubs in general - though I also like a good steak.
4) Do I have any shot at coming home with a wallet that isn't empty?
Based on the previous threads, and general google searching - below is our current list of things to do. Feel free to give an opinion on these if they are good or suck.
Show - Absinthe
Scene - High Roller Ferris Wheel
Scene - Bellagio Fountains
Scene - New York-New York Roller Coaster
Restaurant - Mon Ami Gabi
went there 3 times just so she could get a rose and a picture from each of them
The Helicopter tours of The Grand Canyon are pretty cool. I like the ones that land inside of the canyon and let you walk around.
Pirate show and the people swinging from the ceilings.
Just booked the Vdara - Jeebus fuck these resort fees are ridiculous. I booked on AMEXTravel using a $100 off $600+ AMEXOffer, and then I saw at the end that the resort fees of ~$140 will be tacked on AFTER the fact. I thought it was priced in the original price =/
Oh well, I suspect that regardless of if we went with a cheap hotel or not that the high resort fees were inevitable.
Anyhow, we are mapping out our plans now based on the suggestions, so thanks guys - keep em' coming. Right now we want to see 3+ shows but only have ~4 nights, so it's kinda hard to fit everything in. But we can definitely find some more stuff to fill up during the daytime

Don't forget "the sandwich", a $20 between your driver's license and your credit card to the hotel check in person, give it to them, and ask if there's any chance of a room upgrade. It really works.
There's a ton of stuff to do, I'm jealous
i tried the $20 trick last time i was in vegas and stayed at the cosmo but the guy didn't accept it. however i'm not sure if he still upgraded my room or not because i ended up with a strip view with a balcony that was overlooking one of the pools at the cosmo. the room was awesome.
Perhaps refraining from looking longingly into his eyes and him thinking you want to hook up while you attempt to bribe him would help next time
Might check online to see if there are rooms available first, when they're at capacity, it's hard to come up with a different room.
Also, be warned, the check in lines can be a real PITA, get a drink to take the edge off.
if you're going into vegas trying to be a penny pincher you won't have fun. just go and blow money on things you want to do and you will have a great time. when i was there with a group, some of them didn't want to do certain things because they didn't want to spend money so they sat in their room. f that.
boner pills and PCP
Redundant.
Our favorite restaurant in Vegas has been Buchon @ Venetian. Awesome food (actually prefer it for brunch/lunch)).
