I'm going to Las Vegas for Christmas. (Check in 23rd, Check out 26th) Suggestions on hotels? Should I just go with AirBNB? I'm price conscious and the plan is to spend as much time as possible doing activities and not just be inside the room.

Thoughts?

No Airbnb. Gotta get a room on the strip. Who are you going with? IMHO that's the biggest factor in where you stay.

What hotels do you suggest? I'm not really looking to spend a lot of $$$. I would pay okay money for a '5-star' hotel on the strip if I could find a deal. I don't mind paying for the 'vegas' experience in some sense but I have my limits. Saw four seasons for $600 total for 3 nights... that evaporated immediately. We're not really obsessed with 'quality' of things. Sure, a nice hotel is nice but I rather save $400 and put it towards something else. I've spent time in nice hotels, shitty hotels, good airbnb, bad airbnb, hostels, my car, etc. I don't think the money is worth it to me.

Going with my SO.

Do not stay at an AirBNB, do not stay at the four seasons, do not stay anywhere except on the strip and preferably somewhere mid-strip. Just walk around and do whatever looks interesting to you. If you find that you want to change it up a bit, take an UBER or cab to downtown on Freemont street to check that out for a night.

Do not listen to, or even look at, anyone who is trying to get your attention to give you a great deal on something....there's always a catch or a scam. Even if it's in the hotel itself, the vultures who look like they work there trying to give you free shit don't actually work for the casino. They're trying to get you to buy a timeshare.

There's also a weekly podcast called "Five Hundy by Midnight" that is all about vacationing in Las Vegas which is really informative.

Have fun!

The Westgate tends to be pretty cheap. It's kind of off strip, but the strip monorail stops there and you can just get a monorail pass for less than the difference it would cost to stay on the strip. The main inconvenience here is that it's harder to just walk out up to one of those show booths with cheap tickets to see what you can get for the day because it's so far away.

I'm sure your SO gonna be thrilled knowing you spent thousands on vacuums and garbage cans but have to stay at the Motel 6.

Why even go to Vegas if you're going to be so cheap? Use Priceline if you want discounted room.

That's where I stayed in Vegas. No stabbings or shootings and the truck was still there in the morning. A successful stay on all the points that count.

Been there, done that, had enough of it ... all at the tail end of business trips. I stayed near the strip the first time, never again. All follow-on trips I stayed near McCarren. OP, if you want to REALLY have fun ... drive into Vegas from LA on a Friday afternoon and try returning on Sunday. You will love the traffic!

Hold on a second. Why has nobody pointed out the fact that he said he has a SO??

Anyways, as everyone else mentions, I would ensure you stay on-strip, and mid-strip or beginning of strip. I've stayed at the MGM, Luxor, and Harrahs (off-memory). Harrahs was terrible as a hotel but cheap. MGM was probably the best, but is near beginning of strip and a decent walk to get anywhere (although there's plenty to do there and nearby), Luxor is similarly located at the beginning of the strip but is on the monorail. Not as much to do at Luxor compared to the others.

Check the actual hotel websites, sometimes they have some cheaper deals than what you can snag on expedia or similar.

I've stayed at various places on the strip. 3 favorites so far have been bellagio, Venetian, and Ceasars Palace.

That being said...I pretty much hate Vegas. That, and I am very aware that posting advice in a Trident thread is like trying to get a goldfish to walk on land.

What about a studio at The Signature at The MGM Grand?

Not a bad choice. They revamped a lot of it about 5 years ago IIRC so its not as dated as it once was. Think staying there also gets you free access to their clubs which was nice when I was there (21 yrs old).

I decided to try the LINQ instead. 'Deluxe' king size non-smoking room. Pretty basic. $303 for 3 nights. I'll keep an eye out for better deals and better places since this has free cancellation. I know the reviews are so-so on the place but whatever.. It seems close to everything and we're planning on being outside the hotel room as much as possible.
