I am going to Vegas in a few weeks to attend Interop but need ideas of what to do and see while I am there. This is my first time going and I really don't want to gamble while I am there (much). So, what do you recommend doing?

Oh and light lizards don't count

My best advice from experience - don't stay too long. 2 days is good, absolutely no more than 3. I stayed 5 days, and was damn near broke after day 3, and had to try so hard to stretch the money that I couldn't enjoy it.

Depends on your budget. You looking to spend $500 or $5000? Two different worlds there.

"I really don't want to gamble"
---> thats like saying u are a vegatarian, but dining in a steak restaurant.

hookers
$100 bj, $200 regular sex, $400 any/all holes
note: prostition is illegal in Vegas. it's like picking up a hooker in any other city

shows:
penn + teller, circus de soley
"free" shows with a purchase of a drink

sights:
fountains of bellagio, treasure island outdoor show, etc, etc

Strip clubs:
forget the full nude ones. all juice bars. but if u must go, try Deja Vu

topless ones:
spearmint rhino, tho i heard it has gone downhill slightly since the economic downturn

BTW, been there done that. Went to Vegas a few years ago and at the end of the 3rd day was playing penny slots at minimum bets just so I could keep gettin the free drinks.

Besides, you have to save enough money for a massage with a happy ending. That's crucial.

Eat as many cheap buffets as possible, suck down free drinks while slowly playing cheap slots, leave. You do it right you can eat and drink your fill for next to nothing.

Exactly

Need to know budget

More like $500.

Again, I will be attending Interop so I will be in workshops/boothcrawls all day so will only have time for "fun" at night. Will be there from Sat - Thurs.

What kind of a person are you?

i've been to Vegas MANY times but only to fly into and out of McLaren.

I avoid the strip like the plague. i suggest you do the same.

i'm with you about the media being in a frenzy, but honestly, has being in a crowd and the possibility of exposure from that, crossed your mind?

Honestly, no. I stand a greater chance of eating food that is contaminated with something much worse than swine flu, dying in a car accident on the way to the airport, getting hit by lightning, getting sufficated after a freak accident with a blowup doll....

Something is going to get you eventually, worrying won't change that and I welcome the risks involved.

All this talk about swine flu makes me want bacon.

Could you expand on your blowup doll a little bit?

I would still go. Seriously, the kids in NYC were fine and Tamiflu has been shown to be an effective treatment by the CDC so I don't see what the issue is. It is a new strain which is new to humans so there might be an immunity issue but worse case, if you are a healthy adult, is that you get flu like symptoms, go to the doc and get a dose of Tamiflu.

Cheap buffets? When was the last time you were there? EVERYTHING is expensive now. If you can tell me where to get a good quality cheap buffet in Vegas, I'd really like to know for the next time I'm there.

Go eat at Lotus of Siam (off strip). Best Thai food ever, even in the country according to a lot of people. Make reservations early if there is a convention in town and order outside your comfort zone.

Sam's Town, if you can stomach cheap buffet garbage. But seriously, forget the buffets and just eat something good instead of eating a lot.
