I heard most of the songs... I don't know, I liked both GnR and STP but I only like a very few of the songs... Maybe they need to grow on me.

I'm surprised they put the full album on the net like this, before it was released.

i was hoping it would be good, but it's just a generic rock album; nothing more.

I think the reason why it might not be "special" to ya'll is because I think the band members are clean and sober now. Most of my record collection consists of musicians who were on drugs. Gee, I think they usually write the best music.

sheesh. so dull and repetitive. even the slash solos aren't very good. the songs are about twice as long as they should be for the quantity and quality of material. i have literally heard randomly generated melodies that were more emotionally engaging. these songs aren't catchy and they don't rock.

i'm gonna go out on a limb and say this may be the worst rock record to be released in a few years. well, no, a new found glory's latest is the worst. but this is pretty bad.

Worst in a few years? Give me a break.

Headspace, Fall to Pieces, and Slither are fantastic songs. I'll admit that when Weiland tries to be something he's not in the first few songs it sounds a bit bland, but by the middle of the album you hear his true voice come out and its amazing. As I type I'm listening to the solo in Headspace and it is f-ing awesome.

I have to agree with chrisms here.. I don't think it's the best album to come out, but it has some good things going for it, that's for sure. I picked out 3 songs that I really liked, and a few other ones that I could grow on.

But to say it's the worst rock album in years is ignorant at best, and ridiculously stupid at worst. Unless Fred Durst screaming over the same riff over and over again is your idea of rock and roll at it's finest.

There was another VR thread here

I've always been a big STP fan, moreso than GNR. I've only listened to (most of) it once but I think it sounds pretty good so far. But it is definately more melodic, like any STP song, rather than raw like GNR. They could have gotten any guitarist to play on this, since they don't seem to be letting Slash quite do what Slash does best (except Slither). But again this isn't GNR and I also might change my mind later. I've been listening to Slither for several months and think it's pretty awesome, but don't think the rest of the album is gonna sound quite as good (but pretty good nonetheless). You Got No Right sounds really good; not surprising since STP and GNR both had good slower songs. Set Me Free was also on The Hulk soundtrack.

VR has been playing live shows since I believe last year, so there are some live tracks on P2P of them covering GNR, STP, and other bands. If they played here, I'd definately go.

I'm not too surprised they have the whole thing online. It's low quality, and you've have to record it yourself. Alex Van Halen recently said he doesn't care if people download their new songs. Seal had his whole last album available on his website for awhile.

Velvet Revolver are the artist of the week on www.comcast.net and there's a 3 minute video temporarily there with an interview with Duff & Slash, and showing part of the music video for Slither. Click one of the L/R arrows below the picture if it's not showing on the page. You have to log in to view the video. Click 'watch velvet revolver in the fan'.

Slightly off topic, but I saw an awesome GNR tribute band (someone said the best) called Appetite for Destruction last Friday night here in Nashville. Check em out if they come your way. The women went wild. http://www.notquitegnr.com

More off topic, also check out the new Tesla - Into the Now CD released in March. Good CD. Selling well.

Bought it today....still not sure what to think about it. Just kinda so-so in my mind right now.

Bought this at the same time and I'm enjoying it much more than the Velvet Revolver album.

I've been listening to it since I bought it. Still say it is just so-so. Better than average but not great. Could have been better considering the talent involved.

I still like the Gene Simmons album better.

Listened to it once. Don't really care for it. I had some high hopes for it. On another note, Brides of Destruction suck as well. Only good song is Shut The Fvck Up!. First track.

I'm not a huge Kiss fan, but may check it out. I guess it's a lot different from his first? What would you compare it to?

absolute crap, loved STP, scott weiland screwed that up. This band sucks, Slash is overated and guitar solos are retarded unless it was still the 80s

You must really like KISS. I listened to my friend's copy of A**hole and liked the first song. Firestarter was ok, but still prefer the original. The one cowritten by Bob Dylan is not good  Too much experimenting.

As for VR, I am liking it the more I listen.

Why would you say that? It doesn't sound like a KISS album at all, well 2(Sweet and Dirty Love and Weapons of Mass Destruction) songs do. The Dylan song is pretty so-so but listen to the tracks Asshole, Dog, Black Tongue, & Sweet and Dirty love. Great tracks. Really the whole album is solid. Gene has a varied taste in music and he tends to write songs that reflect those tastes and would never end up on a KISS album. A lot of those songs are on this album.

If you can find a copy of the album that the pre KISS band that Gene and Paul Stanley were in give it a listen. The band was named Wicked Lester and sounded like a cross between Jethro Tull and The Beatles. Really funny to listen to that and then realize they became KISS.
