Well I think that the new athlons will over clock at least as well as the sempron 64's like others said the only difference between the athlons and sempron is the new athlons gets 512k of cache...

I think that new athlon on venice core will be over clock the same like sempron's, becouse I had two (0541/0542) and max oc ~2600MHz @ 1.58v ;]

Yeah, I really dont envision the Venice having a chance of reaching 3ghz. You're looking at 2.6ghz for a good chip, most likely, and more commonly 2.4-2.5, which is still nice.

Yea well, loads of us didn't know

Btw you'd think the single channel Venice would overclock better than the dual channel Venice ,I noticed on my mates Opteron 146 that it would hit a slightly higher speed (~100MHz) in single channel mode.

I have a 3200+ clawhammer and i noticed this on Newegg as well. Do you think its worth getting?

Hello coldpack and welcome to the forums. Whether it is worth you getting a Venice to replace your Clawhammer depends on a number of things, such as how much cache and how high an overclock you can get with your existing CPU, whether you plan to upgrade video cards anytime in the next 6-12 months, what motherboard you have now and whether or not you use software that can get a real boost out of SSE3.

Except for SSE3 and a better memory controller (better results with multiple sticks of RAM), the main benefit of the Venice CPUs is how well they overclock. If you aren't an overclocker or if your board's not known to be a good overclocker, then you may not want to bother with it. Also, if you are planning to upgrade video cards then you will want a motherboard with PCIe and if you have a Clawhammer, you likely do not have PCIe but instead have the older AGP. In this case, you'd be looking at a motherboard to support the new video cards, so may as well choose a higher-end platform if you are willing to spend $165 or more on a CPU.

I just noticed this thread.

I've got one of the 754 Venice 3000+ chips - it's been a ball so far!

So far, I've had it Prime 8 hrs/OCCT stable at 2.65Ghz, and can game for hours at 2.7 (still workin' on tweaks for Prime stability at that speed.) A friend of mine has the same chip with W/C + Pelt, and his is Prime stable at 2.9Ghz. He's also passed SuperPi32m at 3Ghz -

It's really nice to have a 10x multi on a cheap CPU - gives you lots of options! We've been watching posted results for this chip on various forums, and almost all people giving feedback have gotten to 2.6 fairly easily. Haven't seen anybody complaining of "duds" so far....

:Q These are the CPUs that Newegg is advertising for $120 right? 3GHz... wow!

well i'm able to get 2150 mhz from my clawhammer w/ my fan running full blast.. i'm always trying to find a way to keep my system cooler. I currently have a sn85g4 shuttle sff. I just ordered it. I'll post how succesful the OC is. Does anyone have a useful overclcocking faq for pheonix award bios? thanks

Well, that CPU and barebones combination won't win any overclocking awards. You'll possibly get a bit more out of a Venice CPU but not as much as you hear other people getting because you'll be limited by the Nforce3 150 chipset of that barebones. In your case, probably not worth it to change CPUs. If you're a gamer, just go for a better video card.

I just setup my 2800+ E6, very nice, OCed from 1.6 to 2.4 on stock cooler and voltage. Runs like a A64 3500+ Venice on most benches at about 1/3 cost.

Hi guys!

Yesterday I got next VENICE CBBWE 0552CPAW, It was better than previous two, but it's no great, oc on normal level. I think that next cpu's will be overclock better, i'm waiting for 0554 - 06xx

SCREEN (1.55v @ 2600MHz) Don't look to SuperPi time ;] This 2600MHz is stable in games/spi/windows but in PRIME system was crashed, becouse temperature is so high(at 50c - restart)

2600MHz @ SuperPI

I am stess testing at 2600MHz right now with 1.525v. Temps have barely gone up at all thanks to my AC Freezer 64 Pro!
Idle 25*C - Load 33*C (My room is also pretty chilly, so that helps!)

Zap -

Yep, them's da goods! Both of us got our chips from the Egg.

Mine's a CBBWE 0544 - the 3Ghz screamer is a CBBWE 0542.

hm...I had 0542 2 months ago, and max o/c on the 1.55v(on my mobo is it max vcore ) - 2550mhz. I have AC freezer PRO, but temperature is so high on my sempron, and 3 athlon's on venice core too! So I exclude bandy IHS, maybe something was wrong with temperature sensor on my mobo, or freezer don't have good connect with cpu's...What do you think about this? For several days I will get next, fourth venice, so I will write here about oc and numbers on the cpu ihs ;]

PS->my case is Chieftec Medium Tower Dragon, with two 80x80 fans on front panel, one 92x92 fan and next 80x80 fan on the flank of case, so air flow is good, temperature inside case is 26c, when in my room is 22.8c.

Greetings from Poland ;p

Perhaps try lowering the voltage. Voltage plays a role in the temperature your CPU runs at. If CPU isn't stable with lower voltage, then you may need to lower clock speed. Not everybody gets incredible overclocks - there is a bit of variation from CPU to CPU.

I know, but my friend from other o/c forum, have this same cpu and mobo, and on 2400mhz @ 1.5v his cpu temperature is 32c in stress, when my cpu have 39c...:|

Grtz Not bad, Write something about temperatures in stress/idle On the tweak.pl forum's, in topic about 754 venice, some user have 2900mhz at 1.712v, and 2700mhz at 1.55v...After weekend I will get next cpu, I hope that next can be stable on the 2700...

Finally pulled the trigger after Newegg dropped the price to $120. Replaced my sempron 2600+ cpu from the Fry's $69 combo, and the 3000+ is now running @2.5Ghz with the cheap @$$ ECS nforce3-A mobo.
