HI ALL

Office Max has a Verbatim CD-RW for 19.99 after a 40IR and 30MIR. Starts Sunday 1/5/03. Looks like a lite-on or aopen but with the body painted black and verbatim printed on the face.

Actually, if you zoom into the ad on OM's site, you can see that it says "Burn Proof technology"

Of course, you know what that means

And if it's not true, then Plextor is gonna sue somebody's ass

Sadly, it's not a Plextor because it doesn't have a plextor bezel, but I'd bet it's a Lite-On

RE:"Actually, if you zoom into the ad on OM's site, you can see that it says "Burn Proof technology""

I think they are using that as a generic term. Lite on uses Smart burn. Aopen uses Justlink and Benq uses "seamless link".

BTW, Burn proof type technology was developed by Sanyo.

Actually I think that might be good. Teac uses sanyo drives and their rated as good or even bbetter than Lite on.

I bought this drive for my sister before Christmas and took a peek. The picture on the box shows a Liteon, but the drive in the box was an Aopen 48x12x50x.

According to CDFreaks www.cdfreaks.com

Verbatim, all verbatims is manufactured by Lite-On.

Did anyone get this drive - I am deciding between this drive - the Sony 48x24x48 drive (Office Depot) or a BusLink 52x24x52 at MicroCenter ? Is it a Lite-ON and what model ??

Out of stock at the OM I went to; sales person claimed this drive was a substitute for the $20 cd-rw in their ad from last week that sold out.

Looking at their ad they show a beige CD-RW...is there a black painted drive in the box, or is the one in the ad a different drive?

I just picked one up and I cant tell who the heck made it. Only thing I can tell you is the model number is CW 4802.
Only thing I found on a search was a burner called Opti something with that model number. It may be going back to OM

erg EDIT: I am pretty sure it is this OPtoRite ( whatever that is ) here http://www.directron.com/cw4802.html
because it is a 48x16x48 not 48x12x48 like the box says

The new shipment of these drives appear to be Optorites. If you can find an older one it will be a Liteon. A local store stated they got a FedEx shipment of drives (Optorites) yesterday afternoon.

Update on the OptoRite. Windoze says it is a Cendeyne 48x16x48. I installed it and Roxio 5.1.X platinum would not reconize
it. I updated to 5.3.X and burned a small ( 40mb ) file. It was on some OLD cheap disk but it burnrd at the max ( 8 ) of the disk.
Think I will keep it to stick in a spare computer

That's likely a Aopen. Probably has an ellipical shaped door.
Does it use "justlink" burnproof technology?
Aopens are pretty good actually. Second choice behind Liteon.

Yea I got an optorite last week with that Cendyne substitution of the I/O Magic. It is louder then the liteon but I hear it is quieter then the Aopen. I burned a CD and the damn thing uses CLV for writing. It sounds like a jet engine when an airplane is taking off every 30 secs since it is changing its rotational speed drastically. But the weird thing is that the reviews I read of it said the drive used CAV. Can some of you use CDSpeed software that comes with nero and check to see if your is CAV or CLV ?

Thanks
