This was over in the Best Buy thread, but it merits it's own topic IMO.

Pay $59.99 (plus tax) and send in rebate for $30 and $15 for end total of $14.99 (plus tax).

The best part comes courtesy of Harvey, who posted:
Here's an important hint about the Verbatim 52x24x52 CDRW. Look for boxes with serial numbers that are all digits. These are Lite-On's, and most of them are not even re-badged. The boxes with serial numbers that include letters are probably AOpen.
He is correct - they had a mix of alpha-numeric and all-number serials and the one I opened clearly said "Lite-On" on the label.

~$15 for a 52X burner? w00t! I remember paying $200 for an Acer 2/2/6 about 4-5 years ago.:disgust:

Wouldnt mind goin up to a 52x.

My 40x runnin at 48x can't burn a music cd unless it has a couple skips in it.

well maybe you're getting skips because you're running a 40x at 48x... that's just my thoughts

If you O/C'd a Lite-On 40x, make sure you have the latest firmware. That may help. Here's where to get it. Also, some program material burns better if you create an image file on your hard drive instead of just trying to copy another CD, directly.

Again, if it's a Lite-On, probably not. I've O/C'd a bunch of 40x12x40's to 48x12x48 and a bunch of 48x24x48's to 52x24x52 with no failures and no problems. Now, you know why I stick with Lite-On burners.

Great price for a lite-on. I remember when CD-Rs cost $2 each and people were impressed that you could actually make a CD.

I paid $400 for my HP 2x just a few months before the Yammies came out. It was the first sale a local computer vendor made, and like my drive, I think he's long gone.

HeHe I jumped on the cdr boat back when HP had their 8x4x32x scsi running for 200. Sadly i forced myself to buy a $60 scsi card because i coudlnt wait a second longer and bought it at BB.

Yeah I dont normally use nero to create a image then burn rather just decode on the fly when burning. Also burning at 48x screws up my divx files for some reason the voices lag so badly on the videos it becomes unwatchable... but thats only if I dont use TY discs.

Just picked one up they had 2 with all # serials and 1 with letter and number serials. Opened it up Lite-On . Also my cousin said the verbatim rebate comes quicker then most.

Best Buy

Melrose Park, IL.

1 Lite-On left.

Thanks DefRef and Harvey

Still waiting on the Verbatim rebate for this drive over 12 weeks now. Got it at Best Buy back in April. BB rebate came long ago. Waiting on Verbatim rebate still, eventhough it was supposedly approved over 3 weeks ago after I pestered them with emails.

Awesome, thanks for putting it in it's own thread. For me, it makes it a place to stop by on the way home from work. Otherwise I was going to skip it until... the next time a Lite-On burner came up .

Hopefully there's some near home, but I'll go for a drive across town if I have to.

AOpen has alpha-numeric s/ns ..Liteon all numeric ..Tested the BusLink AOpen got from Staples a few weeks ago ..burns fine no errors and hangs but under Nero was ltd to 24x until turned off JustSpeed..now it will burn 52x ..but I'll still limit burn speed like was noted above

have encountered such and not liking it. So I'll limit burn speeds as I believe higher burn speeds lessens the data's longevity on cdr media.

Here's a little note. I bought this awhile back for $19.99 AR and I'm STILL waiting for Verbatim's rebate. I already got Best Buy's rebate and I've been waiting for the other rebate for MANY MANY months. Verbatim SUCKS when it comes to rebates.
