Recently viewed some video demos I downloaded. The demos were awesome. The last time I viewed them the graphics appeared as if in Safe Mode. A few did not work in as much as they would show as scattered in mulitple windows. I shrugged them off as they are not that important.
The next time I tried to connect to the internet via my logon software (Progigy's version of Enternet for DSL). I got the dreaded illegal operation...will be shut down. Enterneddun was causing a page fault in MSVCP60.DLL. I did a "Find" for the dll and found it to be in a few of the demos. Unable to find the file on any disks, including my ELSA GTS driver disk, I could not complete an attempt to reinstall that file.
Tried removing the demos and even reinstalling ISP software and eventually reinstalled Windows 98 SE. Nothing repaired the problem. Finally took advantage of the ordeal to add a long desired partition. I fdisked and formatted etc. I created 2 partitions and tried to set both as active. Struggled through the install of making a WINCAB directory and installing W98 from C:. The first 2 times it put the os in a WINDOWS.000 folder. The third time it went into WINDOWS as I wanted.
I reinstalled my Live sound card and my Kingston network card one at a time and assured their function after each were installed. Now my system is working fine but have noticed the IRQ's were set up differently.
The problem is that when booting and the Windows logo screen disappears leaving the Devices listing it hangs for about a full minute with the "Veriying DMI Pool Data ........." at the bottom of the screen.
It has always shown this line before starting the logo page and still does. Previously the logo disappeared and very quickly went from the Devices listing screen to the desktop.
I have tried rearranging the IRQ's manually and still have a long boot time. All hardware and software was reinstalled in the same order and postition as previous times of reinstalls.
Help?
