Also posted on the Veritas forum, but judging by the replies there - I thought I'd try my luck over at AT also.

Hi gents,
I have 3 BE servers running 9.1 4691 (sp4) and on one of them all backup append jobs fail after I do a restore from the tape.
The box is a Proliant ML370 G4 with an HP Ultrium 400 external LTO2 running windows Server 2003 (no sp) using BE drivers for the device.
So I do a full backup on Saturday, Monday someone deletes a file. I restore it. From this point, all backups fail with this error:
No appendable media could be mounted.
Error - Mount failed.
Physical Volume Library Media not found.
Event ID 34113 is logged in windows event viewer
I can still inventory the tape, and I see it is part of a media set that has no over-write protection and *infinite append period*.
If I use the same tape, or a different tape and overwrite it - then I can do backups on it everyday *until* it runs a restore job. Then the same error crops up.
This is frustrating as after each time I do a restore from tape, I'm forced to cycle in another tape into the rotation and run a full backup and that way the differential backups can keep running. Then I cross my fingers and hope that I don't have to do a restore again that week.
What am I missing? It used to run, however, for the last 4 months or so has been exhibiting these problems.
Thanks for any suggestions.
