Verizon DSL 1.5/128 for $34.99(Maybe 29.99)

As of yesterday, Verizon changed their pricing structure to do away with the 768/128 plan and drop prices on the 1.5/128 plan to compete better with Cable. If you are a Variations All customer, you get another $5 off that price bringing it down to 29.99(or basically having them double your current bandwidth for the same price).

The plans go in effect as of May 21st, but if you call now they can switch you over within 5 business days.

Check out this DSL reports thread if you want more info. I called today and they will have mine upped on May 9th

Gotta be within 12000ft of the CO

UNF!

This is indeed SEXY news!

Does anyone know how this will affect companies like EarthLInk or mminternet - who provide DSL "through" Verizon lines? Will the changes occur on their ends as well? I should hope so. Any thoughts on that?

what's the speed for the $34.95?
I have covad at 384K/128k for $39.95.
Looks like I may just switch over to Verizon.

That's good news - although they are still using that godforesaken pppoe protocol.

Do they offer fixed IP (how much extra?)

1500/128

I was paying $60 a month... this saved me $25 a month.

If you have 768 DSL, they'll upgrade you to 1500/128 and drop your price $5.
If you have 1500 DSL, they'll drop your price $25.

Call them to get switched over ASAP. I think they may take longer to do the switch if you don't call.

Read more about it on dslreports.com in the Verizon forum.

This is very good news, they need to do more to compete with optimumonline though. I hate cablevision, the service is getting worse and is also getting slower, but I need my cable modem, and verizon is still not good enough even though it is cheaper.

Switched today to $29.95 a month. This price is valid if you have the Veriations Plan (combined local and long distance with Verizon).

i signed up w/ verizon back in march when they were doing 768/128 for 29.99 and there was that dell rebate. i live withing 10000ft of the telco, and would probably qualify for the upgrade.
would my price then be bumped up to 34.99?
would it change ur existing contract? (mine was first 6 months 29.99, but the rep actually gave me three free b/c i told her bout the dell rebate).
is there a contract/time commitment for this? btw how many months is this rate good for?

I am going to take a guess and say they will still honor your current deal and up you. Its an overall pricing change, so I do not believe there is an introductory period (none was stated).

As always, you should call to verify the deal for yourself and to get them to up you, or you may have to wait until the end of may when they get around to upping everyone that is within the 1500 barrier.

if you are on 7xxx feet, you probably get 7xx Kbps, 13xxx feet -> 3xx Kbps

the first distance is my current house. the second one is my old house (it s just 3 months ago since i move to the new house --> so the comparation is not too errorneous). i have been using Verizon for 2 years.

i m changing to Comcast cable in the middle of May. i have called them to schedule an appointment to setup the service already.

Sounds like the normal Verizon story. Crappy service. But so far, I have had really no issues after the initial install. When I first got DSL I barely got 400k down. Called them on it, they re-provisioned and I switched to a new shielded cable. Now I average around 700k or better. I blame alot of my problems on the very crappy and long run of phone wire the previous owners did in this old house.

I would have preferred Cable modem service since I owned my own modem, but they didn't offer it in my district when we moved in. Not to mention the old house doesn't even have coax in the walls at all (fairly old house). Since they could offer DSL, I took it. Even though it was only 768 down.

If they are willing to bump my bandwidth for free, hey, I am up for it. I just hope I will see the speed difference. :-/

Very nice deal indeed. I ran the 768/128 package for about 2 yrs b4 just switching to comcast cable. I'd make the switch back but upload speed is more important to me than the few dollars I'd save & our cable is 1500/256 & has been real stable. I certainly can't complain about the 2 yrs tho w/ verizon, very rarely down, speeds very consistent. If this was a 1500/256 package I'd jump on it in a heartbeat. Also agree w/ the above PPPoE comment...that stuff could go, lol...no1 would miss it
