Not really. I'd say it's a middle-class neighborhood. There are a few upper-end cars (Lexus, not Rolls), but also a few pickup trucks (the kind used for work).

Woohoo! Got my FIOS installed today, surfin' the 'net at 5M/2M!

Hardware install was good, took them maybe an hour. As mentioned before, they replace your NID with an ONT, which splits the phone signal and the internet signal. Then they run Cat5 to your main computer location, where they install a D-Link router and hook up your computer to the router. That part took them about two hours, just trying to get the internet signal synched up. In the end, they had to call the main office where some dude with an Indian accent said they'd had to "rebuild the circuit" in the office, after which the router synched up fine.

I just got off the phone with Verizon, and the woman had no clue what Fiber Optic DSL even was, so she couldn't even tell me if there is a reasonable time line when I may be able to expect it in my area. I was calling due the regular 768/128 service going down for a few hours today.

Fios Fiber-to-the-premises (FTTP) is what it's called.

I think this is going to be 100% luck... the amount of labor involved in laying the fiber is huge, the rollout is going to take a long, long time.

AFAIK, they run fiber optic to your nearest phone pole, so you only have a run of copper from the phone pole to your house. So, instead of 16,000 feet, you're only 160 feet... or maybe even less!

Actually, the run fiber right to your house. That part of the install was done 2 days after my order. Part two was installing the box on the house, the UPS in the garage, and the ethernet from the box to my designated spot in the house.
