I've seen that commercial a few times now. But the Motorola droid doesn't look all that hot in the few blurry pics that I've seen so far.

That's like saying all Linux distros are the same though. Android is more of a foundation than an outcome.

Android and WinMo phones can do more than a iphone can. There is no arguing that, it's not even close. The difference is that what the iphone does, it does a MUCH MUCH better than WinMo/Android.

That's true, but most of what the ad claims has been true of Android for a while now and it hasn't affected Apple's market a ton.

As much as I really want that, I think I want to wait until a Snapdragon or improved Tegra based phone is released, and would be nice if it were with Android 2 and some customizations.
I need to wait until March to get a contract discount.

I am also hoping Windows Mobile 7 rolls out by then, it put on a Snapdragon-based phone, and Microsoft decides to include Zune integration in WinMo7. Or at the least, work to create a specifically designed Zune integrated phone or offer that as an option for any developer to use instead of a Zune-less WinMo7 version. That would be very wise of Microsoft, and because of that I should not expect anything of the sort. Though maybe they'll really take WinMo7 serious this time around.
Microsoft proved they had something left in the brains category with the Zune HD, a very well designed Tegra-based device with an excellent UI, and it currently underdeveloped without any 3D games released as of yet. Dropping the ball in that court thus far, but it has potential.

A well designed HTC phone with Zune integration and a new UI that'll come in WinMo7? Consider me ecstatic over such a concept. Being able to use Zune Pass still, have awesome storage capacity (SDHC cards of some size), and be able to play music just like the Zune HD? awesome.

If anything, I'm an apple-hater. But the other companies genuinely suck at providing a good competitor. Apple has a knack for making good UIs and providing a support system of their own - which, of course, forces you to buy their stuff if you want it to work problem-free. And they market it as "cool." It's genius.

If the only way you can market your product is to compare it to some other product, you've already lost.

The Moto phone is unproven as yet, (Moto's future actually depends on Android) and Verizon is notorious for crippling phones. The ad is pretty odd, a carrier taking a shot at a manufacturer.

I'm waiting for more info about the Droid... supposed to be running Android 2.0? What will that bring to the table... Either way, I don't have any reason to get rid of my (1st gen) iPhone at this time.

Android just blows. I spent most of the day learning the Android SDK but now I have no desire whatsoever to write an Android app. Even though Objective-C and the iPhone SDK are shitty, I'd rather be writing iPhone apps.

I can think of about 3(gs) reasons. Using that 1st gen iphone compared to the current one would make me cry.

ac to the PC all the time.

Not really, when was the last time you saw a cell carrier take on a specific phone?

I have to see how Verizon treats the Android phones, up till now TMobile was the only carrier willing to risk Android, Verizon is notorious for crippling phones, for them to embrace an open source OS is pretty unusual.
