We have a family plan with 2 phones and 6 GB of data from Verizon for around 90.00 a month.

Call them and threaten to cancel, they offered me no price increase if I signed for another year. I was off contract with unlimited data.

I deferred, went with TMobile, unlimited streaming is awesome, and their prices are competitive.

Straight Talk (or a similar service) ftw? No way I'd waste that much money for service you can get cheaper elsewhere.

I use about 25GB a month on tmobile unlimited.

That's $175 a month in a new Verizon plan.

Data seems awfully expensive just for the privilege of it being transmitted wirelessly. I mean $90 just for a gig or two a month? It's apples and oranges I know, but Comcast gets a bad wrap for limiting people to 300 gigs a month for half that. I guess I'm just shocked at the jump from internet in the house to in the car.

It is apples and oranges between a hardline and a tower connection, but the pricing is still bullshit. This industry needs regulation.

This news came out awhile ago. The only saving grace is now that Verizon users on the unlimited plan can get a new phone, ans spread it out over 2 years on their monthly plan. I had just been buying phones outright.

It is extremely annoying going to a Verizon store and they try to get me to upgrade, after I say no they try again. Except one rep, tried to buy my line for $500. There is a decent market if you're trying to tell an unlimited plan. To "stick it to the man" maybe I will just stream Pandora all night every night while I sleep. Try to use up the $20 difference. Nothing I can do about it besides just fucking take it, and that is annoying. I can't get the same service and data anywhere else at the price still.

Yup, my $50/month unlimited 4g data deal (from this summer) is looking better and better now. Tmobile ftw. Fuck verizon and their $70 for 2G BS.

Tmobile sucks around here. Verizon is actually $45 fo 3G, not sure where you get $70 for 2G. My wife has the $45 plan, need to bump her up though.

There are plenty of ways to keep unlimited and still get a discounted upgrade. I've done it 3 times since this all began in 2012? Never bought a full priced phone. They just closed some of the methods on 11/15/15 though, which is what screwed me. Just google upgrade verizon phone and keep unlimited.

Will do, thanks. I have only bought two new phones since it started. Right about to buy another after New Years. Just had a wedding Anniversary, Christmas is close, and two of my three kids have a birthday in Jan. So will wait a bit and get one early next year.

Thinking of the Droid 2 Turbo just for the screen and battery. Looking at it side by side with the Note 5.. and the Note 5 looks so much better though. May wait till the S7, but like video cards, always something better coming out.

Meanwhile, T-Mobile just added video (Netflix, HBO, Hulu, etc) to it's "doesn't count towards your data use" list, like they did with music a few months ago (Pandora, Google Play, etc).
And their service still sucks.

This is the definitive guide as far as I know. Huge write up and the OP is actively involved in updating the guide and answering questions.

I'd wait a bit until the dust settles from Verizon's new shens, this crap on the 15th really shook things up.

Thanks for the link. I have bought one from a friend, and one from an actual Verizon store. I will do the same next time too, after more research in the beginning of the year.

Huh, I thought they were adding to their network... not reducing it. I was just starting to consider giving them a shot but that part scares me.

They added a few million subscribers alone in the last quarter. They can't keep up with the demand. Even my friend who's a regional director for T-Mobile admits that their service sucks but they just can't keep up.

I will say though that T-Mobile service is amazing in New York. 50 down almost everywhere I went.

Yes they are giving the stupid people the option to still buy a phone at full price, and pay them more monthly. Thats exactly what i said to the verizon rep at the store when he tried to tell me how this price increase was good. There are ZERO benefits for the consumer on this plan.

The email said the price change will take effect after your contract ends. I just transfered my upgrade to my daughter and got her a new iPhone 6s, so I'm locked in for another two years.

So SUCK IT VERIZON!

TMobile can offer all of those features because their service only works 25% of the time

I have a grandfathered AT&T unlimited plan for $30. I will look at T-Mobile if that ever goes up. I had T-Mobile before with zero problems, but my wife had AT&T.

Project Fi FTW. The ability to use both T-Mobile and Sprint at any given time is great.
