The battery life on the DNA is definitely not "atrocious". Like I said before, it's no Razr Maxx, but it's at least on par with the SGS3 (most reviews rate it a little better.)

I use my phone more than F2F's example, don't anywhere near down to 15%.
Based on what that person described he did all day, and the 15% figure he said he had remaining...Yes, I'd say it's atrocious.
Both my brother's OneX and SGS3 can do all of that and have more than 15% battery remaining.

If your last statement is true, then all I can say is "that's encouraging".
Maybe he has a defective unit, maybe you have an exemplary unit, I don't know.

People need to be posting more details(like on screen time, etc...) about their battery info rather than just stating "I did this and that, came home and it was x%."

To be fair, the battery might not be at it's best capacity yet. Usually it takes 4-5 complete charges and discharges to get a battery working at maximum efficiency. Of course, that can only go so far.

He did say he has unlimited data. Unlike AT&T, Verizon doesn't throttle its unlimited users.

They do but from what I understand its fair. Basically the top 5% of data users on a particular node are throttled only when the node is saturated. Service level returns to normal once the node falls below 100% utilization or you move to an uncongested node.

There is no monthly cap or persisting limit on 4g from what I understand.

I almost dropped for a 4GB plan until I saw they removed the SD slot. Ok Ill play that game. Canceled preorder and placed again keeping my unlimited.

AT&T changed their unlimited data usage policy a long time ago.
5GB datacap for all AT&T unlimited LTE users.
3GB datacap for all AT&T unlimited non-LTE users.

So you watched a bunch of HD videos ... let me know how much data you're using streaming HD videos...

Brian

Just checked I'm at 5 GB since the 21st and still pulling 30+ mbps.

Also battery at 54% after 7 hrs with at least 5 of that screen on and browsing all morning.

Just noticed something. The reflection on the glass curves and distorts at the edges due to the curvature of the glass taper there. The direction of the curvature in the reflection goes in opposite directions at opposing edges (up on the left side and down on the right). As you tilt the phone and observe reflections this causes the reflections to swim across the screen spiraling not unlike.. wait for it... the helix shape of DNA.

And that sums up the problem with streaming -- it can eat tons of data. If your locked into an unlimited plan and they haven't, yet, decided to throttle you then more power to ya, but, if your capped at 2GB or 4GB then you'd have blown through your allotment in less than a week. How much extra would you have to pay per month if you went over your cap by, say, 15GB?

I'd prefer to have the storage and just play my high bit rate music from storage and save my data for other things (tether...).

Me too, but if they are going to do shady things like remove SD cards then I'm going to adapt by keeping my unlimited plan and abusing the cloud. Its what Verizon wanted right? I'm using more data just like they wanted.

I have 4GB/month in my plan and my monthly average is about 600MB so I have room to burn a little, but I see no need to and can listen to high quality music anytime and anyplace -- even when there no wifi or cellular coverage. My SGNexus has 32GB of storage and my Samsung Galaxy 7.7 tablet has 16GB+64GB or 80GB of storage...

I'm waiting to see if the DLX will have a uSD slot and be compatible with Verizon. If so I might go with that over the Note2. There's been some rumors that the DLX might also come with a 2500mAHr battery -- that would be acceptable, not perfect but acceptable...

The GS4 I assume will be a 1080P AMOLED Display, Quad-core Exynos 5 and a 5" screen. It will probably have a bigger battery than the DNA and SD card slot as well. From what I have read the AMOLED panels use more power than the SLCD so a bigger battery may be needed. If all of this is true, I will still be happy with my DNA purchase even for it's shortcomings.

The advantage of AMOLED is that there is no backlight. So you get true black and a thinner display. But Samsung does not have the patent to white OLEDs (SONY does) so their "whites" use a lot of energy. So, yes, their screens are far less efficient and the colors are weird and worse.

The apparent fact that the DNA is getting better battery life than many would have figured with a 5 inch screen at 1080P being run by a battery of 2020mAHr does suggest the display is pretty darn efficient. Still, HTC seems to be so fixated on slimness that they appear to have spec'd the battery at a minimum/moderate use case -- this appears to be a largely unbroken policy of HTC.

If the DNA just makes it through a day with light to moderate use then heavier use will require mid-day recharging -- why?

Again, the specs for the DLX have yet to be formally announced and I'm hoping it has the larger 2500mAHr battery and uSD slot. If it does and they announce soon I will go with that so long as it works well on Verizon's network...

Are the icons supposed to be that color or are is that an artifact of display? Icon looks green on s3, red on nexus4, and white on DNA?

They're supposed to be white. However, the colors are a bit off on the Nexus 4 and S3 in comparison.

Is it that bad really? That looks severely exaggerated. The DNA is awesome but the other two can't be that bad. Anything looks bad under 10000x zoom.

I *WAS* about to buy a dna from craigslist for $500 (pretty good deal) but the dude wouldn't send me a pic of the phone etc even though he had another phone (LG Optimus G) to take a pic with. So I guess I'll be biting on the Note 2 then.

Sansumg's AMOLED sacrifices a lot for true black. A lot...

The macro will tend to exaggerate the differences. It's hard to not be impressed by the DNA though.

Yeah it's nearly medical quality. The XT9 tag on the edge of the keyboard looks like that microscopic print on the edges of film negatives. The whole screen really feels like you are staring at a 70mm negative or holding a microfiche up to the light.
