verizon.net email service ends March 2017

Can't find any other proof that Verizon.net is actually going away. I do not use, but a couple of people I know do use it. .. Found some more info about it here:

My biggest problem is my email acct is being spammed and if I let AoL take over the transfer I am assuming I would still be getting all those spam emails which is why I am looking into using the hotmail acct I already have if I can find some way to inform all my contacts and websites would be notified if possible.

I'm always puzzled as to why people don't use the email address that comes with their Internet service subscription.

this is my internet provider where talking about Verizon and they got rid of there email service and I just found out when I logged onto my acct the info about using AoL to keep the same email address and I just filled out the paperwork and now using AoL servers but retained my email address.
Now I can if they will be better than verizon was with all the spam I was getting at least I can keep everything the same as it was easy peasy.

Interesting. I have a Verizon account for my phone, but my email is bundled with my landline and TV. I get several mailboxes with that bundle. I guess I just never think of email with VZW.

Hmmm? I don't see how that is possible since I have no Verizon email account. I don't see how that will affect phone calls.

You said a Verizon landline and your email is bundled with it. So that should be a verizon.net email. If not then it will not affect you.

Sorry - I was not specific. My landline is with cox.net - part of the service that comes with my apartment. For me, Verizon.net does not exist.

I'm using Thunderbird (for many years) to download my Verizon POP emails. Did you have any trouble with the switch?

It sounded fishy, and I have until April 12th, so I thought I would ask around before jumping in.

the good and the bad of my situation...

Good once I found that once I went to the verizon site I used the option to continue my email address if I setup my info at AOL which is my new provider and that went along as smooth at it could get. The link was provided by Verizon when I logged on to the site.
Bad News is after a couple days with no spam that I was already getting from some spammers that got that email address to spam the spam came back but I dont see it in Pop Peeper email program I use which is already running and I use it to notify of email from 4 different email address,
The spam is found on it own through AOL spam system and it catches a couple non spam items that stay there until I flag them as good.
I will keep this email address as I have around 12 yrs its been used my main address and tied into a lot of website I would need to update any new info.

"Verizon has, since last week, been notifying customers that it is giving up control of 4.5 million customer email accounts and will be migrating those accounts to AOL"

So at least it's not like "surprise, your email doesn't work", and they do notify you in some way. But it's Verizon, so it's probably a last-minute email.

I'm on Windows7 64 bit using Thunderbird for my pop email. I did the change to AOL.
I had Thunderbird check email and it asked for new password, which I entered and all was well.
It was uneventful after that.
