Verizon Phones Deal?

A Verizon woman today told me that big Verizon stores have the new Motorola T720 (Here )for $300 and a $100 MIR, and they give you $100 instantly off if you bring in an old phone of any model, working or not.

That means you can get this phone for $100 after rebate. That seems a little unbelievable to me.

Does anyone know if this deal stands? I can't seem to find anything on verizon.com.

The woman was in one of those Verizon re-seller shops, so she might have been misTaken.

Thanks!

there must've been a miscommunication

T720 is $300 minus $100 MIR *after* you mail in ANY cell phone to motorola

now those cheap places would sell you this for close to $100, but at Verizon BM store?, probably not.

good luck

I got a mailing from Verizon Wireless a couple of weeks ago that invited me to trade in my current cell phone (a Motorola StarTac) for this new phone, the T720, but IIRC it amounted to a $150 trade-up.

I dunno, it didn't seem all that hot to me.

I just got in on this deal last week at radioshack. The deal is $299 with 2 yr contract for NEW customers. Or $329 with 1 yr contract. At the time of purchase you get a padded envelope, a rebate form, and a prepaid address label. You then have to send a working (powers up) cell phone to Verizon and they give you a $100 rebate. End price for phone is $199. The Verizon version is CDMA.

The 720 is a very nice phone, nice color screen. Unfortunately, the screen eats battery. If you are a heavy user the extended battery is a must. For casual users like myself, charging every night is sufficient.

NOTE: Power up the phone in the store and check the software version. Version 17c is loaded with problems. Most are fixed in version 19c, and version 19d came out this week. I recommend checking before you leave b/c you don't want the 17c. I had to exchange mine this week for a phone with 19c b/c of problems. Most stores do NOT yet have the software from Motorola to update these phones. All they can do is exchange phones (if they have any) for ones with newer software. To check versions I think you go to settings>phone status>more information>s/w version...the last 3 characters are the versions.

Very informative Dog, thanks. That phone is pretty sweet. I haven't seen it advertised yet though here in Connecticut. I've been looking to upgrade my StarTac 7868W for a while now.

When I go to the Verizon site it shows the phone being $299. Could the price be based upon my ZIP code?

It shows up as $249.99 for me. Zip code 02118.

It is a beautiful phone, I visited the local store to pay my bill and checked it out.

just on the whole discussion about GSM,- there is nobody who has GSM in the US... (except the Gov mst pbly)

- what dude meant most probably was 3G.... and that Verizon has it, only in Selected areas, NY, CA, and surrounding two or three states... my company( the company that laid my tail off and i still can't get a J O B) did the installation of the network for them.... as of right now, nobody else has 3G... next in line for 3G is Sprint

I know on my v60 if you dial *228 it will update the firmware, can't say for this phone though but they're both Motorola.

That doesn't update the firmware, it just updates the PRL (preferred roaming list) which lets the phone signal when you're not on the Verizon network. To update the firmware you have to go to a Verizon store who has the firmware software update for your phone and a computer to hook it up to.

LubeDog touched on the many problems with the current firmware but even people with the updated code are still reporting problems retaining signal, even in strong signal areas. For as much as this phone costs I'm holding off until there are lots of reports of happy T720 owners, not lots of unhappy ones like I see now on the newsgroups.
