but they are NOT free with cingular. which is one of the many reasons I didnt migrate.

REALLY? I didn't know that and they of course failed to inform me of this as well. The reason I didn't migrate over is because I'd lose my 7pm nights. Right now I pay $69.99 for 2 lines, 1200 anytime minutes, unlimited mobile 2 mobile, nights and weekends, with 7pm nights.

That always confuses me. I get unlimited calls, including long-distance, unlimited incoming/outgoing text messages, voicemail, CID, and call forwarding for $44/month via Cricket. It's basically just my regular phone line that I carry with me everywhere.

Edit: No contract either. I can cancel my service on a dime.

well yes it's not really addressing the problem at hand, but this information is also saving people money on the other side (the sender saves $0.10). I'm just concerned about privacy of this teleflip.com service... last thing I would want is to get telemarketing or spam calls/messages at the number...

Since when? Call Vzn customer service and tell them you don't want to receive unsolicited TXT messages, and they'll turn it off. They have the ability to do so, as well as completely block txt messaging from your phone. If you tell them you don't want spam txt messages, and you receive one, call and tell them about it and they'll credit your account as well as block the sender from their network.

Or you could just be lazy and not do any of that and get charged and then complain about it.

We are talking aboug incoming txt messages btw. And I don't know about you, but I'm not about to let a company roll me over for a 'few bucks a month'. It's asshats like you that let these kinds of things happen, cuz you're dumb enough to bend over and let them stick it to you.

Hmm... good question. My guess is no. From what I remember, you can only get out of a contract if they change their terms of the contract, not the rates charged.

you dont get charged for messages recieved if you dont read them. You get the option ot read it or not...if you hit "no" you wont get charged

Look it up. EVERY major carrier in the US charges per txt message sent and received, unless it's a special multimedia plan of some sort. Cingular charges 5 cents each, or 50 per month for $3. Tmobile charges 5 cents each, or $10 for a thousand. Sprint charges for Vision, which includes text messaging, their Vision packages start around $15 a month. Verizon charges $3 for 100 per month, and goes up from there depending on how many you need.

So no, don't let them "roll you over", just don't use it. And for your information I use Sprint, and pay for unlimited texting, since I actually do use it. $5/month for unlimited txt messages, or 10 cents per message. Hmm...really difficult decision there.

there's an easy way to fix this guys. Cingular sent me a "welcome to cingular" text message about 2 years ago.... I called them and told them to remove the charge and that if I ever recieved another text message from anybody, ever again, I'd go shove my phone up one of their employee's asses so far he'd be singing ringtones.

No more text messages.

You can either have a packge for 100 txt mess for $2.99 or you can get an unlimited txt, pix and video for $5 and that includes 50 mess to people you send/rec that are outside verizon, you can only have one of the packages on the cell at a time. The unlimited is great if everyone you txt to is verizon.

I had a simple solution. When we got our phones, I request text messaging turned off. Sense then I have had no less then 3 friends ask me if I received their text message. I have yet to see one on my phone.

Plus, in this area, you can't be verizon's service.

Yeah it sucks, and you can't even control the incomings. I use t-mobile. Basically though all the cell phone providers in this country suck.

The problem is the companies have no reason to lower fees because so many idiots are used to $50 or $90 cellphone bills now that they don't even care.

We do offer limited control on who can send you a txt mess, on www.vtext.com you can block txts from emails, the web and/or you can block specific people from sending you txt mess. Also you can set up a nickname instead of your # and only accept txt mess sent to your nickname which is a good way to stop spam.

Some examples:

Block messages from up to 15 eMail addresses, web sites, domain names, or wireless nicknames:
(Example: Richard@anywhere.com, domain.com, or sam@vtext.com)

You can also block all txt mess incoming and outgoing, just call cust service and they can set it up and its FREE!
