Is it automatic throttling right when you hit 22GB, or is it "de-prioritization" which may or may not slow you down depending on how many connections a tower has at that moment?

I believe it also requires automatic payment.

De-prioritization isn't that bad unless you are in a densely populated area. It does require paperless and auto pay, though at a fixed fee it's pretty black and white what they charge.

Just to confirm: it's not guaranteed throttling, it's that "de-prioritization" you've talked about. If you're in the 'burbs you probably won't run into it; if you're in downtown Manhattan at 5PM, however...

Is this a trap? I've still got a grandfathered unlimited plan (we heavily use the PDANet / FoxFi for wifi teather, and use about 20-35 GB per month).

Also, what does the $80/ month actually include for a single line? Is that all-inclusive, or is that just a portion of the bill, and there are other costs, fees, taxes, etc?

Still a rip. I have 3 lines on tmo with unlimited HS data and unlimited everything for around 150 and that includes all taxes and fees. I stayed on an older customized plan from a few years ago. I opted out of the 480p streaming on these devices as I have unlimited HS data on them.

Plans never include tax and fees since those vary by where you live. VZW also confirmed that it is cell tower de-prioritization and not throttling once you hit 22GB.

What's the rip about it? T-Mobile does the same tower de-prioritization once you hit 21GB. I'd prefer to pay more for a quality network in my area than saving a few dollars and not getting coverage. From what I've experienced, T-Mobile is a "rip" since I see spotting coverage, even downtown Atlanta.

Standard sales tax I understand. All the random regulatory charges, service fees, surcharges that make it impossible to go to their website and figure out how much an "$80 plan" actually costs is what's confusing for Verizon.

I've got another line that's on ATT GoPhone that's $25/month + sales tax and so it costs $27/month (8% sales tax here). This is on their nationwide website, it shouldn't matter where you live, the sales tax is the only thing that changes based on location.

911, federal universal surcharge, regulatory charge, administrative charge and tax (state and county) could vary. My phone and wife's are tied to two different areas, but on the same bill and a lot of those fees are location based.

It's $80 for voice, text, and data. When did Verizon have a complete unlimited voice, text and data plan for $30?

Our old plan was $100 or so for 1400 talk and unlimited text plus $30 per unlimited data line. Not sure how single line worked but it was around $90 I believe for minutez, text and data.

Oops that's right. I think it was $60 + text plan for limited minutes too.

These phone costs have been out of control for quite a while. Unless you use the data for tethering a lot and save on your regular internet bill.

Averaged out we currently pay $35pp+tax still, for 6gb and unlimited text talk with VZW large plan.

Doesn't the new T-Mobile One plan include taxes and fees?

It does. That's actually their selling point now: what you see is what you pay. You could save a lot with T-Mo as long as the coverage is good in your area.

I believe so. In the end, companies have to pay the taxes so it really depends on if they show it on the bill or roll it into the total. I know AT&T and VZW got in trouble for collecting the 911 fee and not actually paying it to the government. I personally would rather have a cleaner bill and appreciate TMo's approach.

at&t had better copy this or I'm headed to vz.

I'm on Cricket (which is AT&T) because they do have unlimited and fair pricing for their capped plans, too.

Verizon has always annoyed me with their unclear pricing, and I'm not a fan of CDMA carriers anymore as most of the good value phones (currently using a Nextbit Robin) are GSM. LTE and VoLTE will eventually obviate the need for CDMA/GSM specific band support, but it still matters right now. Verizon still has limited and delayed official support for phones on their network.

It's nice to see competition having some effect even on Big Red, though. Hopefully there's enough market pressure to force them into even better plans than their new unlimited one.

Unless I'm reading their checkout process wrong, their pricing still doesn't include taxes and fees.

*Total due monthly will appear on your recurring bill. Before taxes and fees

I should have been more clear. The bill should be the same $80 + same fees each month and not fluctuate. If you do auto-pay, you have a reasonable expectation that your bill will be around $90 a month. I know the biggest fear with auto pay is some random charge or a huge over-limit fee screwing you over.

About time Verizon brings back unlimited data. This is how every phone plan should be: unlimited data.

I never understood why people got suckered into tiered data for some shiny new phone at $199+tax. Tier data is the biggest %cking scam. Data is data. They are just a pipeline. Not enough pipeline? Build more pipeline or lose customers. Weak sauce.
