You have an home internet data allowance? Who do you use? Oh yea forgot to ask - how is the motherboard? Up and running?
Yeah, we use AT&T internet now, used to use TWC or whatever they bundled, we have a limit now, but its faster (compared to slower and unlimited).

Also the build is up and running, now I'm getting 300 FPS on Counter Strike Source with EVERYTHING maxed out (even AA and stuff like that)
It only "fails" to me because of price. Make it cheaper and it's a great phone.

The whole update thing is overblown, and has been overblown for a while now. Google updates the apps themselves with most of the new features, so you only need to update the app. This is much better than having to wait for an annual OS update.
Fail is the price. Specs are okay, but we (the geeks) were wanting it to be 200 off contract or around 300.

Sweet - send me a pic of the build when you get a chance. I'm staying with my TWC for now 30mbps down and 2mpbs up for $40month - not bad - and unlimited

The Moto X is DOA for a lot of us because of the price, no other reason. I think most of us would gladly accept it if it was priced accordingly. But it's underpowered compared to the HTC One and SGS4. The Sony i1 and LG G2 are just going to destroy it. I have a feeling some of the software tweaks will make their way in to the core OS eventually. Especially if the X fails, sales-wise. The off-contract price has been tipped to be the same as other flagship hardware, in the > $500 range.

As for Verizon discounts... While they often lower the on-contract price for sales or other deals, typically (almost always) the actual retail price of the device is unchanged. I wouldn't expect the SGS4 to be cheaper, off-contract, than it is now until the SGS5 gets launched.

I'm actually looking really forward to seeing the LG G2, though it's a monster size, IMO.
Thanks for the reply. I see your point, but I still think everyone saying "it failed" is calling it too early. Maybe it failed to meet your expectations as a flagship phone, but they never said it was going to be flagship. It will be interesting to see if the combination of customization, design, and features are enough to win the marketplace.

I'm really going to have to take exception to this statement:

But it's underpowered compared to the HTC One and SGS4.

I figure this is why a lot of you are "failing" it already. What do you do with your phone that *requires* a quad-core CPU? If you use a GS4 and Moto X back to back, are you going to feel that the Moto X is underpowered?

Phones are all about the user experience. The iPhone 4s and 5 are certainly underpowered compared to the newest Android phones, but you would be hard pressed to call that from using it.

Android is greatly improving the user experience and all reviews point to the fact that a quad-core processor isn't required for a smooth UI and fast app performance.

I'll agree the price point is a bit high, but we all know the contract pricing is highly variable, esp from 3rd part resellers. And making this phone cheap wouldn't have given it the sales title, even if we'd all have been happier. Cheap phones are relegated to "cheap" status.

Pics of inside? (the case has no cable routing but I made due, also the 5.25 bays were a pain so I had to ghetto rig the CD drive)

My phone gets 30 down, 10 up. (unlimited internet )

FYI, my dad probably gets the cheapest plan
(I think we're on 4 down 1 up)

It's more expensive for the exact same specs basically and it's extremely ugly.

It's not the exact same specs. Pricing on the X hasn't come forth yet, but it will likely hit $599, the same price as the Droid Ultra with almost the exact same specs. The MAXX is only $100 more and would get you double the internal storage and double the battery life of the X or the Ultra. I mean, IF battery life is the main consideration for your next device and IF you're on Verizon and IF you want to keep your unlimited data by buying a phone outright, then the extra $100 for double the storage and double the battery life doesn't really seem like that bad of an idea.

The other thing I noticed, and like about the Ultra/MAXX is that they have capacitive buttons below the screen as opposed to relying on Android's on-screen buttons. That gives you more usable area.

Then don't price it like it's a flagship phone. I think that's all we're really asking.

I don't think anyone here really disagrees with you. Again, don't price it like it's a flagship phone when it's not.

I'll disagree. I think there's great opportunity for a new device in the sub-$100 market for all the carriers. And where's the incentive for Verizon to sell this thing? Why carry this and the Droid Ultra?

While on-contract pricing is likely to come down (and fast, I'd wager. I bet you see this for less than $100 on contract within 8 weeks), the discussion was really central to Verizon users wanting to keep unlimited data and, in that case, the retail price will not fluctuate, even as the on-contract pricing does.

There is, quite frankly, no way I'd buy a Moto X over a HTC One, a SGS4, a LG G2 or even a Droid MAXX. Do I need a quad-core CPU and a 1080p screen in my phones? No, not really. But, if I'm spending $600, why would I choose the phone that DOESN'T have that stuff?

Though one could argue that if you went with on screen buttons, you could move that screen down closer to the bottom bezel, giving you the same amount of space, but also increased space for videos and full screen apps. A perfect example of this is the HTC One.

And you could always root and maximize your screen by using Control Pie or changing the size of button.

That'll be great when manufacturers start doing that consistently. Until then, I'm sticking with phones that have actual buttons.

Agreed! If I have to shell out full retail for an off contract device I want the best hardware I can get.
