I just switched to this plan also. For the Bay Area (particularly in Berkeley), I think this is currently the best plan offered by any wireless service. Now I can get the roaming advantage of Spring PCS + the great reception of Verizon.

<< 2. it is NOT free roaming. I repeat NOT free roaming. They way it works is your phone will search for a verizon tower, then it will search for a Sprint/Alltel. If it gets a Verizon tower, ur phone will say "Verizon", if it gets a Sprint/Alltel it might say(depends on phone) "Extended Service", and the roaming indicator will be FLASHING on and off. If your roaming indicator is ON, then you are ROAMING on someone else's tower, and you will get hit with .65 cents a min. (At least this is how it is for the MidGulf, and they are supposed to be the same Nationwide, because that's one of their new promotions, anywhere you go, same plan, etc...)

alright, i'm gonna set a few things straight because what this guy said contradicts verizon's brochures and website...

from the website:

America's Choice Roaming Indicator: When your phone's roaming indicator light is off and/or the banner display reads "Verizon Wireless Network", America's Choice home airtime rates apply. Digital features and services, including national mobile to mobile, are available when your digital indicator is on.

When the roaming indicator light is flashing and/or the banner display reads "Extended Network", America's Choice home airtime rates still apply. National mobile to mobile and some other features and services may not be available.

When the roaming indicator light is solid and/or the banner display reads "Roaming", roaming rates apply. National mobile to mobile and other features and services may not be available.

there you have it...roaming on the "extended network" is free. true, not all roaming is free, but that's pretty clear from the terms and conditions...they flash your phone with the latest PRL and your phone's roaming indicator goes by that.

and yeah, the nights do start at 8:01pm on the west coast, which makes the deal sweeter here, so that's good.

I believe this national roaming is 300/3000 not 150
>>

This one is 300/3000, but has many places (usually in the middle of nowhere) where you have to pay for roaming. The 150/3000 had no roaming or long distance anywhere in the continental US. Unfortunately I end up in places that are in the middle of nowhere. I think they should offer this deal with no roaming. I.e. 300/3000 for $35 a month with no roaming or long distance anywhere in the US. Then everyone would change over to this.

Spinn:
I would keep that plan. I have the same one with 250 anytime minutes, 2000 mobile to mobile, 1000 night and weekend, and no roaming charges in the 5 state west coast (.15 per minute) for 35.00. OK deal with 3000 off peak minutes, but they start at 8 or 9 pm. Most of the off peak calls I make are from 7 to 8 pm, so swithching over for more minutes is no good for me. I think my plan is a good one. Probably one reason they don't offer it anymore.

deejay,

Just for the record, I don't think the rep meant that the extended area was subjuct to roaming, he just said that the light would flash.

A Web,

Just wondering if there is anywhere that I can get a more detailed map of the coverage, simply for the fact that I live in a rural community, in central IN right on the OH/IN line. If you look at the map, then it looks solid there, but not sure about detailed parts.

I have friends that got Verizon service before this new plan came out, and even though they were supposed to have "total" coverage in their region/the whole country, I think the new plan is Verizon just being more honest where you actually will have coverage.

before you jump on this hot deal, here's something

Since I have been with Verizon for a couple of years and had NO problems, and IVO of the site this bovine effluvia was posted on, plus the apparent brain damage (probably too much cellphone time!) of the author, I discounted the diatribe to zero and upgraded my plan to America's Choice yesterday.

Obviously, YMMV, depending on location, but I haven't found anything better for me here in SE VA, especially with family members all over the US and the travelling we do.

every company has horror stories..just ask some ppl on Cingular in LA for example. It all depends on your location, and how demanding you are of the service.
