Maybe hot if you need a new phone and want Verizon Wireless in the Northeast

We were looking for a new phone for my wife the other night. The Verizon store manager flat out told us to wait until 11/17 since Verizon was going to be announcing a major cut in phone prices plus introducing some new phone with more bells and whistle. He didn't have the new price list but said, as an example, that the Motorola V60 would be dropping at least $100 ( almost as low as the ATT wireless price). My wife didn't want to wait, but (thank god) he insisted that we should wait for the new prices/phones. There is supposed to be a full page ad in Sunday's paper.

[ re : verizon. We had Cingular and my son has Sprint. Neither compare to the service we get from Verizon. Cingular always nickel - dimed us and Sprint is just PITA.]

There is an ad in today's San Jose Mercury news for a Motorola v60 phone for $49.99 (AR) for a 2 year committment. This is probably kicking in all over the country, but definitely available here in the SF Bay Area, until 12/1/02.

My old phone's battery is dying, and I was looking for a new phone for my AT&T service which I like. And with several retailers offering V60's for free (AR), I thought AT&T would be willing to give me one at that price to keep me as a customer, but they wouldn't offer me more than a month's free service (my contract expired 3 months ago)!

This offer is from verizon is good enough to get me to switch since Verizon's America's choice plan is just as good as AT&T's, and has much better coverage without resorting to roaming. AT&T is going to lose a few subs on this deal given their attitude about customer retention.

Awesome. I was looking for a deal on the v60i. Verizon is giving my company a 20% discount on the America's choice plan. I was looking to get the best price on a phone. I hope one of the new phones is the leaked Samsung phone with PDA capabilities. I might get that instead.

I just got home with my new Motorola V60i in Minneapolis (from the Mall of America Verizon company store).

Here's how it broke down for me (for the record, I've been a subscriber for 13 months and was out of contract):

Phone's OTD price: $99.99 + tax (w/renewal of 1 year contract)
Fee to activate new phone: $25 (waived with renewal of 2 year contract. I did this, which was not an issue for me, as I'm very happy with the service and I have a nice, easy phone number)
Mail-in rebate from Motorola: -$50

Total for my new $299.99 phone (price without service or contract): $49.99. (Would be $74.99 with 1 year contract.)

I also asked for the 2 month free trial of their new Voice Gear service and 2 months free wireless web. I did all this without changing my now obsolete Single Rate Midwest plan with free night and weekends.

Perhaps I could have done even better, but I'm happy with the deal, and so is my sister, who gets my old LG-TM510 to replace her crappy Nokia that doesn't work for beans with Verizon.

the motorola t720 is $100 w/ trade in AR + 2yr. Verizon has been the best around here (DC area). I have a signal almost everywhere. my mom's att is just about up and got here that motorola (wanted flip up). she doesn't really use anything on the phone except to make calls so features weren't important (altho i've heard battery life wasn't wonderful...).

Is the V60 the only phone that got cheaper? I checked on the website and it seems like all the other phones didn't get a price cut

add ATT to the list. I never get reception inside buildings at UCLA (GSM OR TDMA)

Stay away from the T720. alt.cellular.verizon newsgroup has many unhappy users.

Today's NY Times has the Mot V60i for $99.99 - $50 MIR = $49.99. The Mot T720 goes for $199.99 - $100 = $99.99.

The majority of the issues with the T720 was with the earlier firmware version 17-something, the newer models with firmware of 19c or 19d are much more problem free. Although I'm actually waiting on the new phones to come out including the v60e if they ever friggin put it out. My plan ended 3 days ago...

I was thinking of updating my service with Verizon, but I just noticed that they changed their Nights/Weekend times to 9:01am-5:59am like all the other service providers. My current plan is 650 anytime/1000 nights/weekends (7:00pm-7:00am)/2000 mobile to mobile, which ends up to be about $70 a month after tax and everything. I haven't been using it as much, but I just can't see switching to lose 2 hours/night for nights&weekends. Their coverage is the best IMO.

PraetorianGuards: unfortunately it depends on the area you are in... talkin to one of the cs reps some areas have that option and some do not (you have the capability to access it by dialin in a code in your phone) i am in cali and for now we dont have that option...

Yep, #646 (MIN) for minutes used and #225 (BAL) for Balance and *228 (Act) and option 2 to update the roaming list.

spinn: your plan is a steal by today's standards...$70 after tax? I pay almost that much (its about $67/month), get 600 anytime w/ , 3000 nights+weekend and 500 mobile to mobile. My nights start at 9 pm. Of course I'd use many more than 1000 nights if they started at 7, (use about 800 as it is, with them starting at 9), but oh well. Keep your plan..hell sell it on ebay (are these things transferreable?)

I just wish I had the midwest plan, I could have had it when I signed up, but only went for local, then I switched, and I could only get America's Choice, which is awesome (can use it when traveling, etc), but my home area, I have crappy reception, home area by where I grew up...where I live it's awesome (minneapolis).

erub- thanks for the tip...I was actually checkin' out my current plan online, and they seem to have done away with my extra 200 anytime minutes, leaving me with 450. I'm goin' to call them up and complain. The extra 200 min was for when they took away the 1st incoming minute free policy. After complaining about it the first time, they set me up with the extra 200 min. I really did want the America's choice plan though...I've only got 5 state roaming...which isn't bad.

The midwest plan rocks! I'm staying with it for as long as the 350 anytime I have on it are still good for me. I run all over Minnesota, Wisconsin, and beyond, so it's nice never being charged for roaming no matter whose network I happen to connect to in 11 states.

BTW, Single Rate Midwest is still availabe, but you can't get nights with that plan anymore, only weekends. (I've got the old, old midwest promo, 3000 N&W minutes.)

Informational update: the $50 rebate on the V60i is available through November 30.
