Vertical line down Samsung 64" F8500

So, the light of my life, by beloved 64" Samsung F8500 plasma -- purchased in June/July of 2013 at Best Buy -- recently decided to grow a weird green/black glowing vertical line. I am in total denial about this, but it doesn't seem to want to go away.

The TV is wall mounted, and I am 100% sure nothing *I* did caused this (my brief googling said that heat can cause this, and it HAS been hot as balls in LA lately, but short of that, I have no idea what happened here. It's not like someone knocked into the TV, etc.).

Anyway, as the reality of this sets in, has anyone experienced this before? Any idea what I'm in for (in terms of repair cost, turnaround time, hassle, etc.) Does someone come out? Do I bring it back to Best Buy? Is this going to cost $200? $2000?

Obviously nobody knows the details of MY specific issue, but I just thought I'd ask if anyone has any words of wisdom, or ideas how to handle this.

I'm assuming it's [maybe 3 months] out of warranty because whenever anything breaks it's always out of warranty, so assuming that...someone tell me something positive, before I jump off a cliff!

Best silver lining I can find on Google:

I find Samsung to be very good to work with on these sets. If you call them up and treat them respectfully... and tell them what a LOYAL samsung customer you are - and that you expect a major purchase like this not to fail in 2 years.... etc etc etc.. often times they will extend the warranty coverage on the panel... cover the cost of the panel if you pay labor, or split the costs 50/50.

I hate hearing this, that is a very nice TV. Sorry.

I did! But I don't now that I used one that offers extended warranties. I'm not even sure I own one that does such things.

Can that be added retroactively? I'm not sure what you're getting at...

Pretty much all credit cards offer double the mfg warranty up to one extra year, automatically! They make you jump through hoops to file a claim, but they will generally pay for the repair, or replace it if necessary. You will have to provide things like a copy of the receipt, a copy of the warranty document(s), and probably an estimate for the repair.

It's a hugely under-appreciated (and underused) perk for credit cards.

You may want to push Samsung to cover it first, and use the credit card warranty as a fall back.

I'm having the same exact issue. Don't know if it's from dust. Or from some kinda electronics failure. If I take it apart, does anyone know how to identify the failed component?

Mine changed colors depending on what was going on. And for 40 bucks, that was a cheap throw the part at it and see kind of fix to me.
Check out shopjimmy. They have a lot of TV parts.

Old school 70s trick. Did you try smacking the unit with the palm of you hand? Worked wonders for me.
