Very excited about optimus

Ive been waiting to buy a laptop that's small has good battery and also able to play games and do HD playback!
Really looking forward to a Sony vaio with one of these. Iwas pretty close to picking up a cw but I will wait a bit now

How do you think this will compare to AMD Llano if GDDR is made available for its sideport memory?

the llano is not due for a whole year... the llano is also a low performance IGP.
in fact the optimus will work WITH the llano, by having the llano GPU be the IGP and a much higher powered nvidia GPU be the "discreet GPU".

the two technologies are not comparable or even remotely related.

agree. it would be really nice to switch between crappy integrated graphics and a discrete card on the desktop as well. would save TONS of power. 8800GT idles at what, 170 watts?

That's pretty close to what I imagine for my next notebook. It only needs to have a better screen and a higher end GPU, plus maybe lose a few ounces...

now that I think about it. I have never played games on a laptop and I never intend to.
It is just too pathetically weak compared to a desktop in terms of power, and if it isn't, its exceedingly expensive. not to mention uncomfortable without an external keyboard and mouse.

So, for laptops I'd like to stick to IGP only without any gaming capacity. It is in the desktop realm where I can't wait for a technology like optimus to arrive.

im on travel about 5-6 weeks of the year. i'd like to get my gaming fix of warcraft 3 in. what do you suggest i do?
