$75 deal has been extended but the ones in the box are preprinted...of course.

AT&T and CompUSA both said that they have been extended...however the Modem rebate ends so you need to buy modem by tomorrow.

TimidOCer...

Cascade and they have a lot of them. Remember, you MUST ask for the rebate form at the Customer service desk...it is NOT on the wall!

Just got back from CompUSA here in DFW, Texas. They said they haven't seen any rebates on any cable modems. The Internet starter kit they have does not have any coupons or special rebates either. Their website has no listing of a rebate on a cable modem. nor do they sell them off the web. Guess I will hit Circuit City in Irving again in the morning and at least get the $100 off.

DaveR, thanks for the deal. However, I just went down to the Cascade store and could not for the life of me get those goofballs behind the counter to find the $100 rebate form. There was two guys, one hispanic and the other caucasian...both of them rummaged through 3 or 4 drawers for like 15 minutes. No luck.

Is that the store where you got the form? When did you get it? They would not believe me when I told them several other people had got the forms there.

I saw you describe it as multicolored with the various logos....is there any way you can scan it in so I can show those retards what it looks like?

Thanks again...

Guys, keep trying. Not available at the home of the Fighting Illini but it does end tomorrow. I got in on it but alot of ifs and butts. The @home rebate is old but if you already have ATT you can mail in your work order and make $40. All around my area the rebate will print at CC(Bloomington, Peoria) Good luck.

MJB I don't believe it!

It was on a whole PAD and was at the Customer service area!

Says Toshiba Cable Modem only $99

It is on 6X8 sheet. Black stripe top and bottom and mainly blue.

E-mail me at empea3@mail.com and I can scan it...but am busy and had called ATT with MAC and S/N info...connection can go at any time.

Did you buy it? As long as you did at least you can call the Compusa and hit 7 and mention it to MARY. Or, cantact me on the mail.com e-mail address.

P.S. I am in West Hills, but work near Cascade.

ALSO, CompUSA and ATT said $75 rebate on kit is still good, do not worry about 12/31/00 printed on coupon!

Just did my math again on this:

Currently I have $39.99 ($40) a month, one year subscription fee is roughly 12x39.99=$480(I omitted the tax just for the sake of easy comparison).

If I get on the CompUSA deal, it will be 12x29.99=$360+199.99(modem)+29.99(start kit)+11(sales tax)-175 (rebate)=$426.

So for one year, if nothing else happend, I save $54. If the modem is dead, I have to send it for warranty repair (if there is any), and have days or weeks without internet (still being charged by AT@T, though). After one year, I don't know if I will still be using cable internet.

I might pass this deal. I agree though, this is a good deal.

Thanks DaveR!

I just got it in the Santa Clara CompUSA. The Pleasanton CompUSA (closer to my home in Fremont) did not have it.

I knew (because I read it somewhere in the Internet) that you have to call @home to give them the MAC address and the S/N of you cable modem. I did, and the guy in the phone told me that it's not necessary, that it's only necessary for Mac computers :Q (LOL!). I was trying to explain him that I was supposed to give him that information, but he told me that he would fill up a form and someone would call me in the next 72 hours (arggg!). Finally I asked him very nicely to transfer me to a different representative. The next representative was wonderful ... (well.. by comparison).

That's specially funny if you take into account that I had been an @home customer since they started offering the service (Fremont was one the 2 first Citys in the US) and that I cancelled my @home service 4 months ago just because of the lame service. Whenever their network fails they want to check all your computer settings (that I know are correct because there are no Gremlins in my computer changing those settings) and after wasting your/their time they tell you that the Fremont area in experiencing some technical difficulties ...

When I was talking with the first guy I was having second thoughts ... I was really really close to hung up and run to CompUSA to return the cable modem.

Sorry about the long story, as you can see I really really fear the @home customer service. Well, lets see how it goes this time ...

What upstream speed?? Stupid @home here in the bay area (possibly the whole country) has the upstream capped at 128 kbits/sec (16 Kbytes/s). I couldn't even play certain games online sometimes because I hit the upstream cap and that makes the downstream slower than a 56k modem and I get yelled at by my roommates. If those @home morons could just raise the upstream cap to 256kbs or sometime that would make all the difference.

Just bought mine at the Santa Clara CompUSA. They got a whole bunch (about 20-30 units)of the cable modems for $219.99! Plus the Internet Starter Kit at $29.99 with a $75 mail in rebate. The mail in rebate for the cable modem says that AT&T will refund you the difference of what you paid for so that the modem only costs you $99. What a deal! Let's see...219.99-120.99=99.00 + 29.99 - 75 = 53.99. Of course, you gotta pay like $20 of taxes in CA so the deal ends up costing about $75 for both the modem and the internet starter kit. So, you just gotta use the modem for 7.5 months to make up for the amount you paid for it by getting charged $29.95 a month for cable services. Sweet!

So, expect to receive a 120.99 and a 75 check from AT&T! So, if you buy from CompUSA, you get a 195.99 rebate instead of the 175 if you buy from Circuit City. But it still comes up to about the same thing except for a couple bucks of taxes more if you buy from CompUSA.

Just want to add that the 75 mail in rebate expires 7/1/2001. Dunno why some of you are getting 12/31/2000...the modem rebate expires 1/06/01, that's Saturday! I guess if your receipt shows that you bought the modem before or on this date, it's ok. Chatted to a CSR on the att@home site and they said that they need to send a technician over to swap the modem, more complicated than just swapping. Was gonna schedule a timeslot for me when their database went down! haha...guess I have to call or chat with them again.

Hmmm. So they want to send a tech over. Maybe not such a hot deal for me after all since I am getting free cable right now. Hahaha...and no I am not stealing it. They just never took it away when I got my cable modem hooked up but I know they do nowadays.

be careful guys
ATT has to give up Roadrunner to be able to join with Time Warner and the deal is being finalized within the next couple weeks.
FCC ruling.
What it means is ATT is done with their buying cable services spree and now will try to change everything to the same type of product instead of the 4 or 5 different modems out there now.
I'm not sure if they will change the type{docsis} and or still allow you to use your own modem.
they like the extra money they make leasing modems.
definitely not trying to rain on a parade. just times are a changing, and quickly

As for the above message saying that DSL slows down, mine stays the same (ping times, d/l rates etc...). I think thats one of the reasons people by DSL, it's constant.

CC,BB nor CompUSA sells the modems online. Only certain stores have them as far as I can see. Here in Texas ComUSA doesn't have the rebate, they never heard of it.

You can NOT just change modems like a dialup. You MUST give the cable company the serial number and MAC address of your new modem. At that point it CAN take up to 72 hours for them to update their DataBAse.

I'm talking with my local CC right now and they have NEVER heard of this. They talked with the store manager and they're clueless. They said if there's ANY rebate that CC has it on their website. The manager said they were ringing one up as we spoke and no kind of rebate printed out. WTF is going on!? Any help would be greatly appreciated. BTW: We do have COX@HOME/roadrunner here in OKlahoma City.
