yea, you have to call in to tell them the MAC address and Serial number of the modem. Takes 48 hours to activate the new modem. Stupid guy at the AT&T chat said they have to send technicians over, luckily their database went down before he could schedule them to come or I have to call in to cancel the appointment.

Hello all,

I live in the SF bay area(fremont) and picked up the toshiba modem and all the rebates. Everthing seems fine there. Att also said they will knock $10 off my monthly fee. Only problem is they said they have to send a technician out to do this. I did give them the SN and MAC address but they told me they still need to send someone out to do this. Right now I use a RCA modem. In a couple earlier post they said they don't need to come out??? Should I call back?? Guess it's not a big deal just wondering.

Hello all again,

I answered my own question. I called them back and they said they do not need to send someone out. I told them that someone with there company is telling customers misinformation and their supervisor is gonna look into it I guess. BTW they said 24-48 hours to complete.

Just got called by @home. They insist on sending someone out to my house. What idiots. They can provision the modem from the comfort of their office, yet they insist on having one of their guys waste time coming out here. No wonder they are so slow in getting people up and online in my area.

I just got back CompUSA (Pittsburgh) and no luck, they have about 30 Toshiba cable modems but of course no one knew anything about the rebate on it. The manager opened the box and no rebate there.

I got one anyway and if still no luck getting the rebate I'll return it. There is a $75 Internet Kit rebate (tells you on the box but no info. Can someone tell me how that is supposed to work.

any help would be appreciated

Thanks
Beth

I tried to order one via phone, but they wouldn't do it because of "verification of your CC and drivers licence".
What a BS!
Does anybody know if this deal will be going for a while?

When I bought mine on Saturday morning....the manager told me the items had to purchased at the latest on Saturday.....to show purchase date of 1/6/01....this was on the 100.00 rebate from them...not the 75.00 and 30.00 rebate from the starter kit.

Can someone elaborate on the ATT/@HOME internet startup kit rebate and how it works. I saw several boxes at COMPUSA located in Santa Clara, CA. The start up kit cost $29.95, but what is the benefit buying the start up kit. I'm a current @HOME/ATT user for the Fremont/SF Bay AREA. Have been using it for the past year and 1/2. Will I still benefit from the internetstart up kit? How does the $75 MIR work.

Thanks in advance!

It seems that Circuit City requires you to buy both the Comcast starter kit and the modem to get the $100 rebate to print. Mine says items must be purchased by 3/31/2000.

Does anyone know if the Comcast starter kit includes the $75 rebate? Or is that just the AT&T one? I haven't opened mine yet, since my area is not DOCSIS compliant yet...

cfunk,

The whole point of getting the Internet Starter Kit is to get the $75 check. You make a profit of 75-29.95.

Well I give up on this one. I purchase both the cable modem and the internet starter kit. No rebates when checking out. Called toshiba, called @home, no one knows anything about it. Oh well, back to compusa.

Has anyone had luck at a CC in the Bay Area? The few that I have called either don't carry the Toshiba or have not heard of the promotion.

Thanks.

Auyong,

Have you received your $75 check yet? Is the starter kit only for new users or current users as well?

thanks!

cfunk,

I have not even sent the check yet. I'm waiting for AT&T to provision the change in my modem. They said 48 hours...waiting.

Man, I am such an idiot!!! I had the modem in my hands (along w/ the rebate) and... I didn't buy it!!!! Even if I didn't use the modem, I could have taken it to eGay and sold it there for $200+! That would have covered about 1 year of lease of @home modem!!!
Idiot!

Hi, I'm wondering if there is any cable ISP other than AT&T @ Home in Washington State.

In response to the "wireless cable" remark....here is a post from Motorola website.....

About the Motorola SURFboard SB4100W

Motorola's SURFboard SB4100W wireless cable modem provides a robust and secure high-speed Internet connection to every computer, anywhere within the home -- all without wires. HomeRF multi-user wireless technology allows users to stay connected, with no cumbersome dial-up time. Its full-featured network allows all users to share files and printers. Portable computers can even move from room to room while maintaining an Internet connection, printing, sending e-mail, or playing interactive games. The Home RF protocol supports simultaneous use of voice and data over the same devices and wireless media for up to 15 users in the home or home office/small office.

auyong,

Same with me! They are coming over within the next 2 days to provision my modem. Although I think it is easier done if I just give them the MAC and SERIAL #.

SO THE START-UP kit expires on 1/6/2001 also? Can someone Confirm. I pickedup the rebate form and modem last week, but hesitated on the internet startup kit since I'm not a new customer.

Anyone using a Lancity Modem? My craps out on/off occasionally. I hope the Toshiba will be more reliable and consume less power then the POS Lancity MODEM.

I'm using ATT/@home in SF BAY AREA.

Two of my co-workers took advantage of an offer like this at Radio Shack. They paid $100 got the modem, one month of service, $100 gift card...blah, blah, blah! They both got RCA modems so I guess that's what the Shack is giving out. Both got hooked up and both are enjoying UNCAPPED upstream speeds. The kicker is they both belong to the same cable company that I do, and one lives just a few miles away from me. Anyone else heard of this? I witnessed it in both cases, as I abused their Hotline servers from my T1 at work all day. Just wondering if the modem effects the ability to cap uploads. If so, I may plunk down the $100 to get the RCA. BTW, we are all running Win2k.

<< Why return it to at&t? >>

This was from blizzardo a long time ago, and I didn't feel like reading to see if anyone answered it. But blizzardo, the reason to return the cable modem to AT&T is to get $10 off your bill. Most cable internet services charge a $10 fee each month for modem rental. If you buy your own, you don't need theirs!!

Can you sense the sarcasm in this response??? .....

I'm kind of confused about cable modem ownership. What happens if you buy your cable modem from Radio Shack and it fails after the one year warranty period? Is there an extended warranty? From what I heard, your cable provider won't service a cable modem that you own.
