Well, I wrote ealier in the deal that I bought a Cable modem and got 4 months at half price. Regular fee is $29.99 (just say $30 for math) per month. So that's $15 off x 4 = $60. Modem price was $200 - $60, ended up paying $140. Well, Cox@Home is Omaha just called me back and said that they changed the deal to 3 free months of service. $30 x 3 = $90.

$110 for a Toshiba PCX1100 is great!!!

Thanks for the heads up on this deal!!!!

Question??? I just bought the cable modem today at compusa 1/13/01, I could read what it said on the rebate form at the bottum. Where does it said when the rebate expired??? Does any know when it does expired for sure. I asked around couldn't find the answer. Rebate normally dont end to the end of the month, that's most rebate i know of.

Hi Sillaf,
I also live in Fremont and bought the Toshiba cable modem (in the Santa Clara Compusa). In October I cancelled the @home service (I used to be an @home customer in the past) and now I contracted it again taking the first two months free offer. They had to come to my home because they had to remove a filter in the box outside my house.
Yesterday they came to install it and they told me that the Toshiba cable modem is not supported in the Fremont area (!). Did you have this problem? Today I had to go to Santa Clara to return it.

I dont know, I dont totally believe them (their customer service is so lame some times ...). Anyway, I hope I'll be able to get the $30/month offer as this is what I told them to do and the technician did not update the work order form .

Oh, by the way, cable is so fast ... I really missed my cable connection the last months!

Cheers

EDIT: they have installed the 3Com HomeConnet (the one that looks like a shark fin). This 3Com modem looks cool in the pictures in the web but I dont like it anymore, the Toshiba looks nicer (for me). But it works very well, so far ..

Both using Comcast@Home and both enjoying upstream that blows mine away. Same provider, same main office, one even lives few miles away. Only similarity is they both bought RCA modems at Radio Shack. That's why I posed that question here.

Yep, I was told the same thing. They said something about having to pick up the leased modem.

This is totally stupid. They came today to connect my new modem. Basically what he did was just removing the old modem, and plugging in the new modem. Absolutely no setup at all. (Actually, the guy did not know that you have to install the software for the Toshiba CDROM, so I did it myself and that's it.)

All it took is a pair of hands to do the job! I can't believe AT&T is wasting time and resources like this! Also, when I called in to provision the modem, they gave me the address to return the modem to so there is absolutely no need for the guy to come to pick it up!

Damn, and I had to wake up early for this on a Saturday morning!

FYI - Circuit City still has the $175 rebate on the $199 modem & $29 welcome kit.

So all you'll end up paying is around $55 +tax.

Pretty good deal!

Just came back from Circuit City. The two $50 rebate forms say to "include your product registration form". I didn't find a registration form in the Toshiba modem box. Is there supposed to be one? Thanks.

No...there is no Product reg. form.

I bought mine at CompUSA and the rebate just required the bar code.

I do not believe I started this 1/05 and it is still going!

Well, this one was a dead deal for me. They sent a tech yesterday to install the Toshiba and take back the Motorola. Like MazingerZ, I was also told that the Toshiba or any DOCSIS compliant modem wasn't supported in my area (San Lorenzo, 15 miles north of Fremont) yet. The tech said that if I lived in Alameda (5 miles north) or Livermore (20 miles east) it would be no problem, the headend in those areas are compliant. He also said that originally, in October 2000, my area was suppose to be compliant but is now delayed until closer to the end of this year. Oh well, luckily for me yesterday was still within 14 days since I bought the modem so I was able to drive the 30 miles to the Santa Clara COMPUSA and get a refund on the Toshiba. They should have told me over the phone when I called in the MAC address and serial number that the modem wasn't supported. Typical AT&T Broadband customer service!

I bought this modem when it was first posted, and I saw the $75 coupon in the starter kit was expired. Well I pointed this out to the store manager, and he ended up refunding me $75 from my total.

All I did to change over was call ATT and told them I have my own modem, I gave them my new MAC and serial #. 3 days later my old modem was turned off by them, I connected my new modem, returned my old modem to the ATT office, and that's it. The new modem seems to be a little faster than the old one.

also, I sent in the $75 coupon anyways because I had my service installed before my coupon expired. So after alls said and done, they are paying me to take this modem off their hands.

To those who successfully switched over to the Toshiba Modem:

Did the Network settings change at all? Most importantly the IP, Subnet, and default Gateway?

The tech said all my settings will change and he would have to enable DHCP for me to receive a Dynamic IP address. Was this the case for everyone that successfully switched over.
My @home service is in the Fremont, CA area and am still using the Lan City Cable Modem(1st one's they issued: looks like a huge heat sink).

Any info would be appreicated.

thanks,

cfunk

<< Two of my co-workers took advantage of an offer like this at Radio Shack. They paid $100 got the modem, one month of service, $100 gift card...blah, blah, blah! They both got RCA modems so I guess that's what the Shack is giving out. Both got hooked up and both are enjoying UNCAPPED upstream speeds. The kicker is they both belong to the same cable company that I do, and one lives just a few miles away from me. Anyone else heard of this? I witnessed it in both cases, as I abused their Hotline servers from my T1 at work all day. Just wondering if the modem effects the ability to cap uploads. If so, I may plunk down the $100 to get the RCA. BTW, we are all running Win2k.

>>

Any further thoughts/comments on the UNCAPPABLE modem issue? I'm sure many of us would enjoy to have that.

I agree, I would love to hear more about the Uncapping thing, or a tip on a site that goes into more detail would be great also.
TIA

YES! New IP, and subnet. When my new Toshiba was installed my IP changed.

I always had DHCP enabled, but my ip never changed.

Although I now have a new one with this Toshiba modem, and DHCP still enabled, my NEW one is staying the same too.

Got feedback from Circut City website support.
If you purchase both the Toshiba PCX1100 modem together with the AT&T @Home High-Speed Cable Internet Kit
you will recieve $50.00 rebate for purchasing them together and
a $50 rebate on the modem.
In the AT&T @Home High-Speed Cable Internet Kit is a $75 rebate for new or existing customers.

Purchase modem $199.99 + Internet Kit $29.99 = $229.98
Minus the 2-$50 rebates and the $75 rebate = $ 54.98

By having your own modem you save the $10 month rental fee @Home charges.
In 6-months you are ahead of the deal.
