I think my Toshiba modem just died on me last night. Called up tech support and after they did some tests, said that my modem isn't responding. I was just wondering, does your computer have to be on for the modem to have to solid green light on the "Cable" LED? The Cable LED is supposed to tell you it detected the Cable service but mine is off. Occassionally, it will blink really fast searching for a cable connection.

I'd appreciate if anyone can find out if the "Cable" LED needs the computer to be on to have a solid green color.

Mean Dean, Did CC give any indication when these rebates will expire? I'm hoping for some kind of formal verification that this deal did not end on 01/06/01.

The answer is No, at least for my cable modem (surfboard SB3100). The 4 solid LEDs are always there, even after I turn off my computer. And I can connect any computer to it, as long as the computer name is the same(and using DHCP).

But your Toshiba might be a whole different story.

The Circut City Rebates experation date on the rebate is 2/4/2001 for both $50 rebates
The AT&T @Home $75 rebate expires on 6/1/01

I chatted with the ATT@home tech and asked if my area was DOCSIS compatible. He said no. Does anyone know if this modem will still work even if my area if not DOCSIS compatible...assuming they let me change modems and don't ask questions.

Auyong,

Your cable light is always on on the toshiba. What your modem is doing is what my modem was doing when it wasn't provisioned. -Blinking rapidly every once in awile.

thanks for your replies. I guess it's either my modem or my cable that is dead then. They will send a guy over to my place to check it out on Wednesday. bummer, I just installed the modem 2 days ago and now it's dead.

The first modem I got from CC was dead, took it back for a new one and it works just fine. 3 lights on when computer off.

I still don't know what happened. I was scheduled to have the technicians come over to look at my dead modem so I left work early (3pm). When I got home, the modem was working again! Called AT&T and asked them if the technicians already came and went, but they said no. Later my gf told me that this morning, some AT&T van was parked outside our house (maybe cable problem?). Or maybe they somehow screwed up my MAC address and changed it without letting me know. Anyways, they gave me 5 days extra service...WOOHOO!

By the way, if anyone of you experience any problem connecting, first check to see if your the LED that is marked 'cable' is solid.
1)
If it is solid, then your cable is working ok and maybe your computer has a problem.
2)If the LED is blinking rapidly all the time or dark, then your modem is acting as if it is not provisioned - definitely an AT&T problem.

In case 1), all you have to do is shutdown your system, unplug the modem from the power, unplug the cable from the modem to the PC and wait for 2 minutes. Then, plug back everything and restart the system. This should work.

In case 2) CALL UP AT&T!

I was just at Circuit City to pick up the Toshiba Modem but the Rep told me that ATT is NOT honoring the rebate if you are an existing customer. I then called ATT@HOME to double check and heard the same thing from them. Anyone have any thouhgts on this??

Yes, CC is for NEW customers only. BUT, I was told that if you get AT&T to install the Modem, and use THAT Work Order, it will go thru. Just what they told me at a CC in Portland.

Ok. THis thread is pretty old, is this deal still good? Anyone in Seattle done this? Can you purchase it at either Circuit City or CompUSA, or has the CompUSA deal expired?

The rebate that came in the AT&T @Home High-Speed cable internet kit that you had to purchase at the same time as the modem to get the rebates.

The $75 rebate you need to fill out the date of installation and the Work Order Number.

The AT&T rep told me to get a work order number from the person that comes to pick up the rental modem.
and that there would not be any problems with that rebate.

I just called AT&T and they said that Toshiba is a low-end modem manufacturer. Is this true? Has anyone actually bought this modem? How does it perform compared to the RCA modem AT&T provided?

I live in Seattle too. I think the offer is still valid. The nearest Circuit City in Lynnwood is 15-minute drive.

I swapped the original RCA with my own Toshiba about a week ago. Haven't had any problem. Just tested transfer rate at dslreports.com: 4797kbps down and 122kbps (capped) up. This is even going through the Netgear RT314 router.

Over the past 6 months, the @Home ISP performance has been great. On the other hand, tech support and customer service have been very poor.

....I am stuck with cox@home here in my area, so no rebate on the modem purchase...but if you guys come across a rebate on that Toshiba or any cox@home promotions, let me know

I dropped my DSS satalite service and now have cox cable, so that drops the monthly cable modem service down to $29.95, if I have my own modem...so that's my next step..then just waiting for a special on installation...can't see paying 75-150 clams for some clown to come and read my modem serial number..maybe that's just me

anyone gotten their $100 rebate from @home? i bought the toshiba modem 3 months ago and still haven't gotten anything back from them yet. i lost my rebate copy, so i don't even know what number to call for the status of the rebate. anyone gotten their $100 yet?
