I'm at Circuit Ciry in Omaha... Cox@home and there don't have any rebates but if you buy the modem you get 4 months internet service at half price.

Modem price 200.00
@Home service: 30.00
1/2 off services x 4 = $60.00

Total price on modem 140.00

Saving (not paying monthly rental fee): -15 / month
Deal will pay off in 11 months...

Great deal

TimidOCer, those guys at the Cascade store are putz's. They've got the rebates somewhere but just can't find them.

Good to hear they've got'em at the Tigard store. What's the gal's name that you talked to who said they have them?

Got a question for @home subscribers. Which cable modem did @home give you and is it reliable? Because they gave me a crappy @$$ motorola modem that has a rom that gets corrupted everytime there's a power outage...(which is quite often in NoCal w/ our rolling blackouts and all). So I was thinking about asking them to replace it with something a little more reliable. So I would like your thoughts on a reliable modem.

I'm not even an @home subscriber but I ran out and picked this deal up as I ponder my options. I'm currently a pacbell dsl subscriber at 384/128, and they've been overbilling me for over a year. Every month I call them to fix it and get credit and every month they mess it up. Getting tired of it, really.

Anyway for those of you tracking these things I picked up the toshiba modem and starter kit at the mountain view, ca (grant road) store. At the counter the register spits out two $50 rebates, not a $100 one. Weird. Also the $75 rebate in the starter kit is expired but I will send it in as is.

I'm hoping I can take advantage of the two free months cable signup to defer the cost of this purchase to zero, and then switch to earthlink dsl if the cable modem sucks.

Such games- all I want is a reliable service and price.

Since I started all of this 87 messages ago, I scanned the rebate in and sent it to rbdavis to POST. Thanks!

Anyway, I sure hope we get the $75 rebate as I do not "get it" The starter kit is a $20 book and a demo cd and a Mouse pad for $29.95! I need NONE of it so I better get the $75.

On the plus side...@Home just told me to mark the form with "Offer Extended" and copy everything. They WILL make good!

Evening all!

I will give you some of the insight I have on all of this. I have had @home (former mediaone) for over 3 years now. The entire time I have had a Motorola modem! The reason is this; they changed from mediaone to @home. @home is the name of the service. DOCSIS is also a name of the service, but they are generically calling any AT&T HSD @home. So the rule of thumb you can use is this! If you do NOT have a Motorola modem, you CAN with 99.99% probability use that other modem since it?s probably DOCSIS compatible. If you DO have a Motorola modem, you MIGHT be able to use if it your area was converted over to DOCSIS ready. I know what areas in the Chicago area are and aren't DOCSIS ready, so if you have a question about your area let me know. DOCSIS is the future of HSD for AT&T. There is a shortage of the Motorola modems right now, and has been for a year. So all the new areas AT&T is launching are DOCSIS compatible, and they are converting several others. The reason for everything being DOCSIS compatible is customers are able to do EXACTLY what DaveR posted about.. use their OWN modem. Like I said, if you have any Q's, let me know!

Regards,

noodle

For those of you in San Diego With Cox@home service you need to be in a particular RF range to use the Docsis modem. I just had Cox come upgrade me from the old motorolla. When they did they did a signal check and when questioned on it they said it needed to be between positive 5 and negative 10. They told me they had tried installing one on a positive 7 and it smoked the modem... Great deal for those that can use it...

...and, to my surprise, the Toshiba in this Deal is a PCX1100. It is DOCSIS 1.1 version!! @Home converted to DOCSIS standards when they brought up DHCP...to add another term here, but my IP has NEVER changed!

dchilder - Depending on your area's demographics. If you live in an area which probably has a high number of computer using households hooked up to cable then I would choose DSL. Cable is still in infancy here in Portland, Oregon (available for almost 1 year now) so I will go with AT&T @Home cable if/whenever it becomes available for my house.

I currently have 640K DSL and my telco (QWest/US West) gave me the Cisco 675 router for FREE.

It took 1.5 hours for me to get this to work. Finally they called another store in Peoria and the rebate forms were faxed. I have to send in TWO froms: 1) to CC Rebate 8778 Dept 8778 po box 90347 Richmond VA 23230 the other 2) to CC Rebate 8779 Dept 8779 po box 90347 Richmond VA 23230

Can anyone else confirm this is the Case, I saw one posting that had one $100.00 form

The people at my CC said that the offer on the Starter Kit had been extended to 1/6/00

My fingers are crossed!

Funny thing, another guy in my area was reading this forum and showed up just as I had done the leg work to reap the benefits of my 1.5 hours.

Unfortunately the deal is not working in San Diego. I have been to both CC and compusa and neither are offering the rebates in question. I have tryed to do the buy both and see if the rebates print out at Circuit city, it didn't. If any body knows how to make this deal work please post for San diego area. Sorry about spelling 2 margarita's have taken their toll..

So, even the starter kits are different! The starter kit for Comcast@home has two cables (one five foot, one twenty-five foot), a splitter, and the software. We don't have ATT cable where I am in Southeast Michigan, we have Comcast cable and Ameritech Cable.
I have been using Comcast since they started here about three years ago. The service has slowed up as more people signed up, but is still much faster than anything else offered. Other than occasionaly email problems whiich mostly consist of delayed receipt and delivery, it has been pretty reliable. I have checked out all the DSL offers as they come up and there is never anything close enough for me to consider.

Since I couldn't care less about sports, I have basic cable service which costs me $9 and gives me the same channels as limited, about 60. I pay another $41 for internet service. Owning the modem will knock off $10 a month.

Someone asked me for the complete rebate form, but they are only good for the person who bought the items -- the names are preprinted on the rebate form.
Here is the rebate address:
Comcast $100 Promo
Dept 26527
P.O. Box 52900
Phoenix, AZ 85072

I would think you could ask at Circuit City for the program number 26527 as printed on the form, and they could look it up in the system.

Just an FYI for everyone who wants to buy a cable modem. Com21 has an awesome cable modem the DOXport 1110 which has way better technology and from what I understand is complaint with @home. They also have their earlier version the DOXport 1010 which is also very fast. The 1110 has the fastest chipset in a modem to date. It flys... Although they do cost about $299

Hi everyone,

I just bot one at cc, and the printed rebate receipt says:

"Qualifying items must have been purchased between 1/1/01 and 2/4/01"

The salesperson said the rebate ended today.....

SO I think there is plenty of time to buy it at cc...

Thanks for the info, I just picked one up at CompUsa in Tigard, Or but the couldn't find the rebate forms! I think I'll just call the 1800# and see if they will send one.
I may go in and ask someone else and check on these $5 modems at the same time.

Does the 75 rebate is good for exsiting customer ?
I order the @Home from Nov.00 and still in the free 2 month trail, am I eligible for the $75 rebate?
I found it doesn't require me to attach the recipt of this start kits, that means they don't know when I get this coupon .... !
And this coupon said expire on 12-31-00, is it still fine ?

Thanks !!

I spoke to BOTH AT&T and CompUSA and was told that the CompUSA deal was for BOTH New and existing customers.

Also, I was told that the $75 rebate has been extended. AT&T said to mark the rebate form...where it says 12/31/00 with "Offer Extended".

I better get it as I still do not see how they charge $29.95 for a $20 book and a $0.50 mouse pad. The CD is just demo movies.

Called AT&T with S/N and MAC address Friday...still using old Com21! Well they said they had 72 hours.
