Just out of curiosity...

I have been combing a lot of forums trying to get a feel from actual users on various LCD's. Aside from the one guy here who said that the FP2000 wasn't too good, a lot of people over @ ArsTechnica said the exact opposite.

These things are always subjective...But on the same note...Has anybody actually used one of these Planar displays before? I have yet to read any review and/or user comment on the good/bad of these things.

Are they well regarded? Does anybody know if they employ Samsung displays? How is gaming? Text?

I noticed that Dell offered larger Planar displays, but I'm a little hesitant since I know virtually nothing about them.

I got a flyer with a 15% off coupon on it.

Does anyone know if the flyer coupon is combinable with the 15% sale this weekend? I don't want to add it to my account if its not.

Anyone find this monitor at a ghetto site like Royal Camera for cheap? If anyone could find that, AMEX people can BVG it up to a 250$ difference...

I bought it for a dual monitor setup for my dell/sony 21" CRT. It is very good for reading though. I since changed to a planar 17.4 for the secondary monitor. No ghosting, great for games.

I think i might just jump on the 19" planar. Thanks

Were you using DVI? I have 2 2000FPs sitting here in front of me and I haven't seen a single image quality problem even at resolutions below the native 16x12.

OK, another question...

If you have registered for both ebates and Upromise, is it possible to be able to stack all of these on top of the 15% discount? I cannot seem to do it...each one seems like it's mutually exclusive (IE can only pick one, and have it 'stick')...?

Much appreciated...

BTW, I live in Portland (OR), and I just found out that Planar is right down the street from me! Talk about weird.

Yes i was using the DVI input with two different video cards. ATI 8500 and then a Geforce 4 4600. I guess im to spoiled on a CRT quality. I sold my Viewsonic pf815 22" CRT for the FP2000. The LCD was i OK but not as good as i expected. The quality and games played better on the planar 17.4 i have.

Dell had no problem taking it back because i said it just didnt look good enough the the money. Id get the planar 19" if a was going to do it over.

The panel is Acer/BenQ. But it's got a top-of-the-line deinterlacer, scalar, ADC and other components.

Just got mine from the Fedex guy today.

I ordered a Chaintec DVI Ti4200 Card from Newegg, but it hasn't arrived
so I tried it just on my old Geforce 256

This monitor is HUUUUUUGE!

About the equiv of a 20.5 inch CRT

I noticed some scroll ghosting at the very first but after it warmed up
that seems to have gotten a lot better or maybe my eyes just got used
to it.

Tried some games and didn't notice any sort of ghosting on fast movements.

Looked at some high res. digital photos and they were GORGEOUS!!!!!!!!

You need to sit right in the sweet spot on this monitor though, the MVA
technology is less forgiving than most.......stand up and it looks like crap, but
I typically am seated while viewing so I like it.

All I can say is if this is what the screen looks like with no DVI card,
I feel like I'm going to be a very happy customer with it!

At 740 bucks for a true 19 inch DVI capable LCD with free shipping, that
is the most compelling deal I've seen yet. Would have been a decent deal
for a subpar analog screen that size, but a GOOD monitor with DVI's
it's a steal!

I know they'll be cheaper next year, but the cost to wait is a year's use and
for me if that meant 200 bucks, this one is worth 200 bucks for a year's use.

I like many am extremely perplexed as to why no reviews or user sites on Planar,
with Dell selling them in numbers I would think the users would be out there to
tell the tale, but I find no place to insert my .02

This is a nice screen guys. If the deal repeats, buy it with confidence.

Now, who wants this piece of Sh(t NEC 17 incher????

ghosting or "smearing" is what happens to the images on the screen on, typically, FPS (First Person Shooters) when the video is graphics intensive and motion quick. I.E. if you were to play Unreal II (when it comes out) and did an 'about face' really quick you would see smearing or "ghosting" on the monitor. To give a frame of reference...if you have seen a "ghost" on a tv when the reception sucks or you don't have cable *gasp* the double image is similar in nature.

hope that helps...

Ever seen an image and a faint outline of the image nearby? You can see this sometimes on LCDs without DVI, and it's often caused by impedance mismatches, but that is one case of ghosting.

you can get the same deal now with free ground shipping and no tax by using the Dell Home S&P 15% coupon which is only valid today.

$879 - 131.85 (15% coupon) = $747.15

depending on where you are, no tax makes up for some of that $100 coupon you all are looking for.

btw, does anyone know the specs of the Lite-On 17" LCD that Dell is selling?
is it this model?

Question...I wanted the black one...and I notice it's SXGA....what is the difference between the two monitors...they are both CT1904Z models...but when you look at the specs they are slightly different.

Anyone know the difference between the SXGA(black one) and the Multimedia LCD Monitor(white one) ???

Black Planar 19"

and

White Planar 19"

wow, i just took a quick look at those specs... this monitor is smoking! never realized...

but alas, i don't *need* one right now, but need one later on in the year. do you guys think we'll get as good a deal later on? i do believe lcd prices are dropping...

dgoedken: i think they're the same. just a typo by dell probably. but sxga is indeed 1280x1024 (1.3 million pixels)

What the hell does need have to do with it?

Buying this screen with the 15 off coupon in
the home store is the equivalent of buyin
the thing for about 699 in a retail store and
that's nearly half of what some people were
paying a few months ago.

I'll second the comment about lcd prices coming down.

Looks like this one's come down about 40 percent.

I got mine yesterday and trust me........if you don't own one
you "do" need it...
