Buyers be aware!!! Apparently some people (including me) received this LCD under different model, CT1904ADU instead of the CT1904Z as advertised. The major difference is that the ADU model only has 2 USB ports, compare to the 4 USB ports in Z model. In addition, the ADU model is no where to be found on the PLANAR homepage. So basically, you are paying more for an inferior product!

I am calling Dell tomorrow, hoping to make some sense about this mess up!

I couldn't hold out anymore ... $703!!! I ordered mine today.

BTW -- The 20% discount won't show up until you add the monitor to your cart. I talked to a sales rep, dead pixels aren't an issue because you can return within 30 days for any reason.

the next higher model of 19" planar is 20% off too.
it's too bad, i already have a 17" nec 1700v.
i guess i'll wait for the newer version of lcd's coming out a couple years from now.

I got it yesterday and installed it. The pic was OK.
But , in the web, it says that it can do 1280X1024 @76Hz, but mine can only do 60Hz, Who else has the same problem?
The other thing is it has a dead pixel right in the middle, which drives me crazy. I just issused a return. and Meanwhile ordered one @703. I hope this time , it come with no dead pixel and can do 75Hz @1280X1024

I have been thinking to get the Dell 2000FP for more than a month. Even though the price dropped from $1,540 to $1,499 recently plus 20% off, I still hold my trigger. I can't stop blaming myslef if I spend $1,200+ just for a monitor while for the same money I can have two complete PC systems. Finally it worths the wait. I just placed an order for this 19" Planar LCD for $681. Frankly, I love the Dell 2000FP more. It looks cooler and the resoulution is better than the Planar. However, for one inch smaller, a little lower resolution, and $500+ difference, I'd rather go for the Planar. The only thing I don't like the Planar is it looks a bit too thick compared to the others.

I have owned this monitor for almost a year now, and it is pretty good. However I wouldn't game on it.

I have it currently attached via DVI to a Geforce 3 64MB DDR, on my wife's computer. I had it on mine for a while, but I didn't like the bluring effect I got on fast moving FPS (First Person Shooter) games. Counter-Strike would blur when you turned and it was rough aiming when you had to do it quick. When the picture was static, it was great. Since Counter-Strike didn't support the native 1280 X 1024 resolution of the monitor, the picture always looked a bit fuzzy.

Still stricktly from a gaming prosective, unless your game supports the 1280 X 1024 resolution (most do now a days), it won't look as good.

It is fixed with a refresh rate at 60Hz, however I am able to push it up to 75Hz through my video card settings.

on the 2D side, the video is good unless there is a lot of motion (fast moving videos, DVD's, movies etc.).

Still my wife loves it, as for me I am sticking to my 19" Trinitron FD. Still can't beat CRT it in the gaming world.

CS looks pretty good with FSAA and AA cranked up, I found that helped with the ghosting for me (although not on a Planar).

:| DANG DANG DANG DANG! :|

I should have jumped on this immediately. Looks like Dell fixed a discount error, and now the discount is only 5% instead of 20%.

Next best deal is now the Dell 18" LCD Monitor discounted from $949 to $759.20 with the 20% Dell branded accessories discount.

Rats.

I found this article on ExtremeTech: http://www.extremetech.com/article2/0,3973,10085,00.asp
Apparently the response times listed in the specs of most LCD's are only best case scenario. I've had Planar 17.4" LCD before and couldn't stand the streaking and blurring in FPS's. But according to Mitsubishi FFD tech will only hit the market next year . sigh, guess I'll have to keep playing the waiting game to replace my 60lb CRT.

You mean it's a good price if you know how dot pitch works with LCD monitors. Unlike CRT's, each pixel is individually defined on LCD's. Thus, .29mm will still look sharp and clear, especially when used with a DVI input.

The Planar deal is gone, but you can get the Sceptre version (same panel) for $735.96.

Apex, do you or anyone else know who makes the panel for the Planar?

If anybody has pics of this beast in action, I'm sure there are hundreds of people that don't have $700 to spend on a monitor that would like to drool over this with me. Thanks in advance

hmmm, i don't know how to say this.... IT IS TOO GODDAMN BIG! my neck hurts from looking up at it. the built in USB hub is nice for my keyboard and mouse, but i don't need the built in speakers (have a logitech Z560 set). i was watching lord of the rings dvd on this and i couldn't believe my eyes. i still don't believe that i got it for $700 shipped overnight and tax-free.
